So, I'm at in-n-out ordering my double double when my window won't go up. I push the button and I get a nice BUZZ!!! sound. I had pull my damn window up by hand to get the damn thing up. I'm not sure what to replace? Motor? Regulator? Whats the difference? I looked at my bentley.. but that wasn't much help.

TIA guys!

Check to see if you are getting 12v at the motor and check the fuse too. Then check the regulator for any play. Chances are your motor died though. It happened to my front-right window.

not to jack, but my problem is a little different. My rear passenger window will not roll down... You can hear the track go up and down but it is like it is not attached to the glass...

any ideas? are there clips that attach the glass to the frame?

This happened on my 525i shortly after I got it. It was some damn plastic clips that attach the window to the regulator.

It just happened to my 540i on Saturday so I am hoping it is the same thing. An indep. shop did it for around $60 if I recall correctly.

hey atl,

my window is getting power.. I can hear a little "click" when I push the button, but the window doesn't move....

So... how the hell do I replace the damn motor? hhahah!

Where are you hearing the click at? I know the window circuits are under the read seats with the alarm and what-not. You need a torx bit to get the motor off. Make sure when you install the new motor you install the bushing. I made that mistake once :)

Whackamac-

Your regulator came lose from the window. It is a common problem from what I've read and heard. It happened to my car also.

The window switches in the back have 5 wires going into them. One of mine severed, and the window would roll down but not back up.

ty for the info! So it is just a matter of "clipping" the window back into the regulator track? If so, that sounds pretty easy!

Thanks again! and my little $750 beemer is looking more like a $2500 beemer now...

Forsaken, I have a similar issue with mine. When I got my car there was a bunch of coffee still drying in the primary window controller (between driver's and passenger's seats) All the windows except the rear driver's window worked. So I figured it was the window controller and I replaced it.

The broken window would make that "click" sound when you attempted to use it as well, but so do all my windows when at the top and you attempt to click it higher.

Regardless, I replaced it and now BOTH my rear windows do the same thing. No movement, just "clicks". Someone has to have the answer for both of us at least.

hrmm.. I hear the click at the motor... or the regulator... not sure which is which... the bentley says I have to drill out the rivets.. that sounds like so much fun!

Vile- I can only hope that our windows will work soon. Thankfully, I know all of my wiring is still good, I just need to replace something on the door.

Man, I just want this thing to be over with! I hate getting out of my car to pay the in-n-out guy!:rolleyes

Some of the E34s had the regulators riveted to the door instead of bolted to the door. It was fun when I changed the rears out :)

i see where your going in (and i do appreiciated. no sarcasm)terms of resistance but, for me it's not that there is excessive resisntance in terms of ohms but more on the side ofthere is more mechanical resistance (i.e. not seated on rails, not enough grease on the greases, motors going out, etc.)

Both of my rear windows used to do the clicking thing.

What to do:

Hold down the button to put the windows down, and hit along the bottom of the door. They will work, and if I don't use them for a while they sometimes stick again, but tapping the bottom works again.

Something about the brushes being too tight or something?? That's what I was told anyway.

Both my fronts rolled down but not up. So while its in shop getting a few things done I had them look into the prob. It comes out to be the regulators. So I ordered a set off ebay for 53 bux each with shipping (cheapest on ebay). They came in and look great. Even the mechanic said they were the best replacements he has seen. Funny thing is they sent me 4 regulators instead of 2. I let them (dont want neg feedback) and they said to send them back or i can pay 42 bux and keep em. So I kept em and paid the 42 :)

When I read this, I said "This is the most retarded f**king ghetto fix I've ever heard in my life" ........ Ehem..

About 5 hours later I couldn't help myself, put the keys in go to the back of my car and open the rear door. Held the button down and banged on the bottom of the door.

NOTHING!

I said, "Hah, thought so!" ..... But I tried banging one more time and sure as shift, it worked! I was in disbelief! Anyone know what really causes this? Bushings somewhere inside the windows needing a little lube?

Forsaken, this is perhaps your solution too. Give it a good bang or two at the very bottom of the door (plastic trim area) and hopefully you too will get the same results.

t.wak, Thanks bro!

No worries at all! Just passing on what worked for me... I could hear that something was trying to work, so what else to do other than hit it?? :D

Oh, and the first time I did it, it also needed a firmer smack, but for the times afterwards (if I haven't been using the windows they stick again), it usually only needs a soft tap.

Help
My rear window won't go down. I looked for the fuse but was not successful. Where is it, I looked in the fuse boxes under the hood and under the seat. Thanks for any help.

My front pass window wasn't going down either. I recently read about the door whack trick on another post and decided to try it since my door panel was already off due to replacing the door handle. Amazingly it worked! Good luck!
