View Full Version : Picked up some wheels
clevertd 03-24-2007, 08:39 PM Got a good local deal on these (hooray craigslist). They need a little work, and I plan on following the procedure outlined here: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext43.shtml. You might also notice some of the other stuff I've done but haven't posted. I also have a set of OEM Euro Ellipsoids that I'm going to install tomorrow, as well as changing the fuel filter.

Analog 03-24-2007, 08:46 PM Those look very nice. What size are they?
clevertd 03-24-2007, 08:52 PM 17x8, came from an E39, already e-mailed Jim @ Tirerack through the wheel forum to get some hubcentric rings.

Analog 03-24-2007, 08:53 PM I have e39 m5 wheels. I made the mistake of no hubcentric rings.....Argh. Had to go back and get them put on. My front right stilll wiggles a little.
atl530i 03-24-2007, 09:18 PM Nice. I like those E39 rims a lot also.
Very nice. I like those a lot.
I found a set of 32's (18's) here locally, but I already have enough rims..
Damn, the wheels stick out a bit dude, what about the offset?
:lol I was thinking the same thing... looks like you need some major alignment work...

BimmerMeUp 03-24-2007, 10:19 PM Very Nice! I picked these (down below) up from craigslist last week. They must be having a blowout sale. They guy who was selling them found them in his garage when he bought the house.
They are staggard (sp?) and are in really good shape except one needs some new paint. Looks like a brake fluid leak or something lifted the paint.
It'll be a while till I mount them up as I need some tires and Tire Rack is out of the ones I want at the moment.
Here's the problem, the Wurth paint in the Audi article you linked has been recalled and no one seems to have any left. If you find a source for the Silver, let me know. I'm going by a place the local BMW dealer recommended next Wednesday to check out what they have (the BMW dealer sells the Wurth stuff, but hasn't had Silver for a while.) The dealer has been using this other outfits paint in lieu of the Wurth silver for minor touch ups and such.

clevertd 03-24-2007, 10:39 PM :rofl at the offset "problem"... what, it's not supposed to be like that?

Looks good! I've been thinking about something other than silver, like a gunmetal almost... Let me know what you find out.
Have you tried Pelican Parts (http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/index.htm)??.. I know they carry Wurth paint.
EDIT: Nevermind.. I just checked the site.. they are out also.
NORCAL/335i 03-24-2007, 11:10 PM Style 32s look really good on the E34. Theres a dude on here with a silver E34 530. His ride looks sweet with the 32s on it. I've also seen a set powdercoated anthracite on a E32 seven series.:)

That guy is over on bimmer.info, not sure if he's over here or not.

No, she yells at me.
zmuff 03-25-2007, 04:23 PM HEY! That looks like my car! LOL...I lurk around off and on to see how my e34 brothers and sisters are doing. I just finished a complete strip and repaint on my wheels...put them back on two days ago, so no pics yet. I bead blasted them clean and shot a coat of two-part polyester-urethane silver, then masked off the centers and shot the spokes polyester-urethane gloss black. They turned out real nice and this paint is almost bullet proof. It's the same stuff we use at work to paint aircraft landing gears and wheels...impervious to most chemicals and tough as nails. Put on a fresh set of Kumho Ecsta SPT's too. So far, so good. I'll throw up some new pics soon.
Clevertd, repainting these wheels are pretty easy but...I'm not sure if bead blasting is the way to go, if you plan on paint removal. I don't know what kind of primer BMW uses under the paint, but it was HARD work to get it off. Stripper perhaps? Nice wheels you have, they'll look great mounted on a black e34!
The first time your rear tires go over a bump or pothole at any sort of speed what is going to happen to your wheel wells?

My suspension is just that stiff that it won't have any wheel travel:stickoutt
zmuff: I was planning on using some paint thinner or talking to a friend about what he does to refinish wheels. Looking forward to seeing updated pictures!
Alpine535i 03-26-2007, 01:39 AM My personal favorite BMW wheel, no matter what car they are on they look great! Can't wait to see them mounted, guess I'm gonna have to look at craigslist a little harder:)

What suspension do you have? Thanks, again looks great!
Mr Project 03-26-2007, 08:41 AM Sweet, I'm a big fan of Style 32s. I need to hang out on CL more if they are really having a blowout sale. :D
hooRAH 03-26-2007, 09:23 AM Those wheels look familiar....
Oh yeah.

BTW, lookin good.
clevertd 03-26-2007, 01:46 PM hooRAH: did you ever figure out what that simmy was?
hooRAH 03-26-2007, 03:38 PM No, haven't had a chance to swap my wheels yet, too many other jobs to work on. I'll probably get to it this weekend.

Bump for tomorrow and hopefully information about Wurth paint... I'd really rather not pay someone to do this job.
clevertd 03-28-2007, 12:18 AM Hmm...http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/9144/POR_9144_MISCLL_pg10.htm
I did come across Einszett Paint
BimmerMeUp 03-28-2007, 02:17 PM I spoke with the dealer recommended paint shop today, but they don't have charts for wheels. They need a 3-digit paint code to mix some up. Anybody know the three digit code for the Brilliantline used on these rims (Style 32, circa 1999)?
I may just go the Einzett Silver route and respray all the wheels if I have to....
