View Full Version : Madison: Anyone want to drive next Saturday?
nort0188 03-24-2007, 01:22 PM I'm thinking similar to the first Madison meet last year. Meet up somewhere in town, head out to the Mt. Horeb roads near Tyrol, beat the piss out of our cars, and maybe get some food out there. High is 51F, and only a 10% chance of rain so far. Anybody down?
NEW: Postponed due to weather
MadCityBMW 03-24-2007, 03:47 PM yeah... im down.... i am eagar for a meet with the madisonians
sachin528 03-24-2007, 10:50 PM I work from 7-11 - dont know when I will actually be off of work.
murdoc158 03-24-2007, 11:35 PM I'd be up for it, assuming I can get my oil pan replaced in that time. Anyone have a spare S52 oil pan for sale?
nort0188 03-25-2007, 12:29 AM Should we just plan on meeting at Olin Park again? Say 12PM, roll out 1230 or so?
Or we could do it later and do dinner... consensus?
Hopefully my Konis will be here by then and I can slip em in real quick :)
dustent 03-25-2007, 09:50 AM I might be able to make it. Last year the front end of my car took a serious beating because the roads were still really dirty. I had those crappy Depo foglights and both of them ended up cracked. Someone should take a ride out there and see how bad it is, it's supposed to rain for the next couple days so that'll probably clean the roads off.
I'm picking up a 1999 m3 on Monday! So I'll have something new to show off. :alright
flyguy91318 03-25-2007, 09:51 AM Did I miss this or you guys plaining on the 31st ?
dustent 03-25-2007, 09:59 AM Did I miss this or you guys plaining on the 31st ?
31st
snopro67 03-25-2007, 12:31 PM so the 31st at Olin Park? around 12:00pm?
pswarren 03-25-2007, 02:03 PM I will have to see what we have going on next weekend, other than trying to sell the house. I hope I can make it. :redspot
sachin528 03-25-2007, 02:14 PM Isn't the 31rst the show in Franklin?

nort0188 03-25-2007, 03:14 PM Saturday March 31, Olin Park in Madison, 12PMish. I'm not meaning to steal people from the Franklin whatever it is, I was just seeing if anyone was available to join me in some spirited driving and unhealthy food. I'll edit the first post with that info, and start a list right here of who will be for sure coming.

dustent 03-25-2007, 08:40 PM I just checked the weather, looks like it'll be nice and cool. Hopefully the thunder storms on Thursday and Friday clear off the roads, although around Madison they seem great right now.

I like Highway J out in Mt. Horeb, is this the same route you were thinking?

pswarren 03-25-2007, 10:04 PM Looks like I have an open house on Sunday and a couple people coming on Sat to look at the house, so I am out :( . Although if we selll the house it gets me that much closer to the new house w/ 3 car garage :buttrock .
nort0188 03-25-2007, 10:34 PM If I go on J, I usually take Mineral Point to Old Military. I also like taking 18/151 to the Cave Of The Mounds exit, then the road that goes past Little Norway, which continues on to Stewart Park.
I was out there this afternoon and they were pretty well clear. I didn't hear my Azenis kicking much of anything, so it shouldn't be a problem.
I'm down for doing something like this pretty much every weekend, so don't kick yourself if you can't make this one.
slowman 03-26-2007, 07:32 AM You can put me down for a guaranteed show. I was actually going to make a thread asking the same thing. :D
I'm sure Chuck will go once he sees this thread. I'll give him a call later to see. I might also be able to do some recon on the roads a little later this week.
As long as the SVT Focus doesn't show again and decide to pull a 45 mph e-brake turn directly in front of me. :mad
dustent 03-26-2007, 07:47 AM As long as the SVT Focus doesn't show again and decide to pull a 45 mph e-brake turn directly in front of me. :mad
I just emailed him your quote. That's going to make his day! Joe (the guy with the SVT Focus) told me that the all the roads out in that area are clean.
I ran into Chuck on Saturday, his car is out of commission, but I'm sure he'll kind something to drive. :)
snopro67 03-26-2007, 12:34 PM count me in as long as the weather holds.
murdoc158 03-26-2007, 03:10 PM I forgot I have a family event to attend on Saturday. Sunday, however, is wide open :dunno
slowman 03-26-2007, 04:55 PM I've got no beef with the SVT Focus guy... everybody gets a second chance with me. :)
Hmm... I helped Chuck with e-brake in his iX about two weeks ago. What's wrong with it now? w/e, I'll give him a call.
I'm down for Saturday or Sunday.
straight6pwr 03-26-2007, 06:29 PM id go, but my brakes still need attention before more spirited driving so they dont go out like last time.:eyecrazy
sachin528 03-26-2007, 06:58 PM id go, but my brakes still need attention before more spirited driving so they dont go out like last time.:eyecrazy

snopro67 03-26-2007, 08:23 PM I'm picking up a 1999 m3 on Monday! So I'll have something new to show off. :alright
Is that the red one from Zimbrick's?
dustent 03-26-2007, 08:45 PM Is that the red one from Zimbrick's?
Yep, picked it up at 5pm today.
beatniks325 03-26-2007, 09:15 PM sweet you grabbed an M3? f-ya! :alright got any pics or you gonna surprise us all?
i just talked to ryan (slowman), yeah there was a confusion of the chuck's, which is funny because my ix is making sounds out of the AWD like the driveshaft splines are going out. pretty common problem i guess, now i gotta get it figured out.
i'll try to make it in the eta, or i might have ryan or someone pick me up and drive me around! :D

sachin528 03-27-2007, 06:25 PM Is the M replacing the Ti?
nort0188 03-27-2007, 07:16 PM I'm so very jealous. My next car WILL be a red M3. How many miles?
Forecast is up to 55F, but now a 40% chance of showers...
Update on those attending:

dustent 03-27-2007, 07:38 PM Is the M replacing the Ti?
No, at least not right now. I'm keeping the 318ti, I've got a lot into it and I REALLY enjoy the car. It's still going to be my daily and autocross slut since my 15" Hoosiers won't fit on the ///M. If someone offers me like $8k for it, then it's gone.
slowman 03-29-2007, 06:12 AM Damn... I won't be able to go... maybe next time.:shifty
dustent 03-29-2007, 08:56 AM It's not looking good for Saturday:
Sat
Mar 31
Rain / Thunder
62°/44° 70% chance of rain. BOOOOOO!!
slowman 03-29-2007, 11:18 PM Vote: Weekend of April 7/8... yay or nay?
Wait!!! How about this. There is a Hillclimb in New Glarus on May 5th, Sat morning starting around 8:30. It is put on by the Alfa Romeo Club of Wisconsin... AROC. www.alfabb.com . You won't find much, it is not a heavily advertised event by any means. It is also invitation only, which means none of us can compete... only spectate.
Usually around 100 or so cars show up. Last time the highlights where... E24 M6 (f'ing mint!), Bugatti Type 35, Shelby Cobra 289, Lamborghini Countach LP5000 QV, and '65 Shelby GT350R. This is the last year of this event. I've gone for 4 years now... Even if we do a drive within the next two weeks, we should all go to this as well. I'll make a map of the course here; its just on country roads in the area.

sachin528 03-29-2007, 11:37 PM April 7/8 is Easter weekend. Doubt that many will show up. PM/IM me - I will get the word out about the rally.
snopro67 03-30-2007, 04:16 PM I assume tomorrow is cancelled. Easter weekend might not be the greatest either.
snopro67 03-30-2007, 05:26 PM I am interested in that hill climb though, anybody have a direct web link to the event?
nort0188 03-30-2007, 05:27 PM Yea, we should probably just forget about tomorrow... this weather blows. As far as I know, any day next weekend works for me, including Friday, if anyone is interested.
MadCityBMW 03-30-2007, 06:53 PM im good for any one who wants to meet up next week.. im on spring break.. only bad day is wednesday..
slowman 03-31-2007, 12:54 PM I can do weekend only.
There is no web link for the hillclimb. It is not an advertised event. It is a private club that uses a public road, thus it is a public event. I spectate every year.
suburbanent 04-01-2007, 09:48 PM I'm from Milwaukee WI, and I am about to get a 1994 540i, 130K (is that the M60?) $6000, clean as hell, and I twisted all weekend tring to find something to hate about it.
I have had it all weekend and I love it. I want to invest money and possibly race a little. mostly just look pimp though!!
the only issue I found is that it is leaking oil. I told the dealer about it and he said he will get it fit. Is this a sign of a major problem? I havent had the time to look where the leak was coming from but I know its there. Also the "1 Brake Light" keeps poping up. I check the wires and it seemed to fix it. I also found infomation on it here to make sure its ok.
I cant feel good about it unless I know the leak isnt something really bad. Is there anything I should look for or ask on Monday. I plan on making it my baby, I already love it. it drives like a dream. I figure a new brake system and hot rims along with what ever else I find out on this board to make it run better would be a great investment.
Let me know what yall think.
Big Jus
nort0188 04-02-2007, 01:40 PM Anyone want to shoot for this coming Saturday, April 7? I would assume same details, 12PM @ Olin...

dustent 04-02-2007, 02:01 PM Anyone want to shoot for this coming Saturday, April 7? I would assume same details, 12PM @ Olin...
Easter weekend is no good for me either. The following weekend (14th and 15th) is the first weekend for autocross! (http://www.waiautox.org/)
EDIT: I have a pretty good list of local autocross events on my website: http://180customs.net/autocross/autox-index.html
snuggz 04-02-2007, 03:48 PM Yeah, I'm dying to cruise, but Saturday is my birthday... and all I see in that crystal ball is drinking, drinking and more drinking.
Maybe Sunday? Like after noon?
murdoc158 04-02-2007, 04:07 PM Anyone want to shoot for this coming Saturday, April 7? I would assume same details, 12PM @ Olin...
I'll pass on this date too. Too much stuff for Easter at the moment. The 14th would work for me, and the 15th is the Badger Bimmers TSD Rallye in West Bend.
nort0188 04-04-2007, 03:12 PM I'm driving with the F-Body Assoc at Road America on the 14th, so no good for me... the 21st?
murdoc158 04-04-2007, 05:08 PM Maybe we should just make plans for a Memorial Day meet? :help
sachin528 04-04-2007, 05:45 PM Maybe we should just make plans for a Memorial Day meet? :help
Track Day at Blackhawk Farms through Badger Bimmers on the 25th.
28th (Memorial Day) is my 31rst bday. (that's right - my bday is a National Holiday)
slowman 04-05-2007, 12:41 PM Nobody wants to make a meet out of the road rally in New Glarus on May 5th?
I'm going with or without you guys... :buttrock
nort0188 04-05-2007, 07:57 PM Do you know any fun backroads on the way down there? I'm all for it either way, was just hoping for something sooner.
slowman 04-05-2007, 08:38 PM There are at least 2.5 hours of country road driving. At least... with some careful planning you could probably make a 6 hour drive just staying in Green county. You probably wouldn't see the same road twice either.
I think Green county has some of the best country roads in the state. Shit, the road rally itself is on the country roads!
You guys will be missing out if you don't go. I'm going with or without you.
If you are interested in going, just let me know or call me 608-827-5870. I would really like to organize something.
nort0188 04-05-2007, 09:53 PM Start up another thread for it. I'm 99% sure I'll be able to make it.

MadCityBMW 04-14-2007, 10:25 AM i would but got football practice at noon
slowman 04-14-2007, 12:37 PM I'm installing motor mounts, transmission mounts, all new shifter bushing, and my Euro radio delete panel. :D

dustent 04-14-2007, 05:18 PM We are heading out to Mt. Horeb in about a half an hour. We'll be leaving from Fitchburg, heading straight out on 151. Call if anyone wants to meet up. 358.1796
