View Full Version : 335i high pressure pump
mills1944 03-23-2007, 08:45 PM There are 66 of us poor 335i owners waiting for a high pressure fuel pump. Mine has been in the shop for two weeks. Every Friday my service rep says next Friday only to tell me again next Friday. I finally called the parts dept myself. Turns out they are trickling in. Last week (Mar 19-23) they shipped NONE. I love the car, but it's now a 45K static display.
What's the point of 300 ponies if they can't get any fuel. I asked the dealer to cannibalize a pump. The dealer that has the car (couldn't drive it to the dealer where I purchased it) said no. I raised @#$$ with my original dealer - we'll see what happens.
I've never had a problem like this - I lost a fuel pump on my Jeep, but at lease they had a part.
First and probably last BMW I'll ever own - they need to take a lesson from the Japanese.
PatrickKroft 08-15-2007, 10:01 PM mine failed a month ago...was in the shop 2 weeks waiting for the part. then last week (week after pump got fixed), the sunroof malfunctioned - "anti-trap" malfunction. it only moves about 2" at a time and will only open about 4". my sunrrof appointment is next week....back to 50K static display status.

yeah and Japanese cars never had any failures! You're talking 66 out of how many? I feel your pain, but doesn't mean your car is worthless now. Wait till you get it back and in a couple of days you'll forget all of this. Good Luck.
gugarci 08-16-2007, 08:20 AM Since your car is still under warranty is BMW giving you a loaner car or a rental till the part comes in???
uh, this thread was dug up from March. I'm sure he's got his car back by now.
It highlights an interesting point, though. My dealer used an example such as this as 'one of the reasons to buy from us'. I was comparison shopping out of state (and ended up getting a better deal because of it), and he mentioned someone's fuel pump failing a few weeks before, and said, "if he would have been one of our customers, we'd have pulled a pump off of a car on the lot and had him on his way, but he bought his car elsewhere and just brings it to us for service".
Seems kind of weird in my opinion to treat the customers of other dealers with less urgency, but then again dealers make the majority of their money off of the cars they sell for BMW, they have no incentive to treat another dealer's customer well... aside from winning a potential new customer.
PatrickKroft 08-16-2007, 10:41 PM you cant beat the service.......the dealer paid for my rental car the entire two weeks...got the car back washed & detailed too (tires shined even)
LAConfidential 08-16-2007, 11:30 PM ^^ good to hear

Told you wait till everything is in order. Most people who are frustrated (and understandably) because they don't want to be separated from their beloved cars, but $h!t happens, and when you get your car back, you forget it all. Glad your dealer was good to you, most are, but a few have terrible service.
gugarci 08-17-2007, 08:10 AM Good to to know the dealer provided you with other transportastion.
StevefromPD 08-19-2007, 12:04 PM I had a problem of the excessive cranking while trying to start the engine. Dealer determined it was the high pressure pump. They ordered it and installed it in less than a week.
