OK, So as I have posted before I am getting a 335 Cabrio for my wife. We were late getting on the "list" so the dealer (who I liked from the beginning) was trying to be absolutely honest in saying that putting in the order now, due to the shortage of 335 engines, I may not get my car until July or late August.

We decided to do the ED for a faster delivery (late June) plus the experience of driving in Europe for a few days.

I work in the medical field and a surgeon I work with went to a lot bigger dealership and he placed an order last Sat. and they told him he would get his car May 15th at the earliest. Who knows when he will really get his car. Basically same car my wife is getting.

So this didn't make the wife or me happy so I contacted my client advisor. He told me that there was no way this guy was going to get the car May 15th. Then he said unless there were some things going on that he wasn't aware of with BMW. He said that BMW are not supposed to have a separate "list" for larger dealers. I guess it all boils down to if there are different allocation lists for different size dealers. Who knows?

However, he told me he spoke with the manager and they were both pissed. He didn't tell me what specifically upset them, but he said that there was a chance that the guy who bought at the other dealer may get his car late May or early June US delivery.

After that he told me the manager had decided to give me $5000 off the US price. The way we configured my wife's car the MSRP including destination fees was $58,135. We are being sold the car for $53,135 destination charge included. No hidden fees either. The only other fee is a $589 dealer prep fee which applies to both ED and US Delivery prices. This is still about $1500 under the ED price. I thought they were actually being extremely fair since I didn't ask for this. Just wish I knew what went on behind the scenes. However, they did tell me they were upset the BMW headquarters if "what they think happened.... happened".

Regardless, I think I'm getting a fair price on the 335 Cabrio. Also, just bought two roundtrip tickets to Munich through Delta for around $1200 total. Not bad.

Pick up the car May 10th in Munich.

Later,

JL

Hi, congrats on the new car purchase. As far as buying an ED BMW you really need to read at Bimmerfest extensively before making the purchase. If you are buying, not leasing it is a lot simpler. I have no idea what game they were playing with their "man we are pissed, just for that we are going to give you an extra special deal" but I wouldn't believe any of it. When it comes to ED pricing you always negotiate a price above ED wholesale (invoice). ED cars dont count against the dealers allocation so it is a good deal for them. You should expect to pay around 1250.00 over ED invoice. You have to pay Destination and handling, tax and title and options and that should be it. I didn't have to pay any dealer prep so that is additional profit the dealer is tacking on. It is very simple to calulate what your out the door price should be. Take a look at this site:

http://jon.bimmerfest.com/bulletins/07_E93_pricing.pdf

This is the ED invoice pricing. I havent calculated it but if your deal is higher than ed invoice + invoice options + S&H + Tax/Tags + Dealer Profit (1250 approximately) then you should renegotiate.

Good luck.

EDIT: By the way, the more I think about it there is absolutely no way they should be charging you for dealer prep because you are taking delivery in Europe. In other words your dealer isn't doing the prep, it is done at the center in Munich and there is no charge for that. All the dealer does is pull the car off the truck and wash it and call you to pick it up. I just configured a 335i cab with step, paddles, nav, premium, and PDC and 1250 dealer profit it was 48,995.00 before tax/tags for reference.

How did you get that number if the base price of the 335i vert is at 49,100?

Thanks for the info. I don't want to sound too ignorant as we are picking up the car in Munich (obviously), but then turning it back in to pick it up at the dealer. Therfore, which base price do I use? (i.e. USA Port of Entry, Euro Delivery Munich Pickup, or Diplomatic USA Port of Entry)

Thanks!!!

Actually using the Euro Delivery Munich Pickup base invoice of $42010 our car comes to a total of $52945 after adding $1250 dealer profit. So compared to the price they gave me of $53135, I suppose I'm in the ballpark? I was wrong on the $589 charge. That was what we discussed whem my wife was looking at a 335 Coupe on the lot. Not a ED vehicle. Sorry about that.

I suppose they really aren't giving me anything special, but it is still less than I was originally quoted. At least I know that I am getting an extremely fair deal on the 335 Cabrio.

Thanks again!

US Retail base price has nothing to do with ED price. Thats why it is such a good deal, just look at the link I posted. You use ED invoice (wholesale), plus options, plus tax, plus S&H, plus profit and nothing more. Like I said it is very easy to claculate exactly what you should be paying, no delaer prep, no Maco, no Training Service fee, etc.

Thats why ED is so popular. There are downsides though. Like I said if you are seriously considering it, Bimmerfest.com is the best resource and you should read there for a while before making your deal.
