Wondering if anyone has the same problem I do and if your mechanic ever figured out the problem. I have a 3 month old 650i that stutters to a stop when I shift down m3-m2-m1. It stutters in m1. Sometimes it shifts back up to m2 when it should not. While in m1 the car has also lunged forward several times. Had I not been attentive I would have rear-ended the person in front of me. The car has been in the dealership twice, the last time for 8 days. They sent the engine computer back to bmwusa for whatever reason then put it back in and said it was 80% fixed. Worked fine for a few days now it stutters almost every stop and again today lunged forward. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
John

bchon,
Yes, the problem is with the software. The engine computer reacts as if the engine is stalling and gives it throttle. BMW is aware of the problem but after three software fixes they would do no more. The problem exists with 650i & 550 with the steptronic transmission. The problem I described now only occurs about once a month, all the way home from work or vice-versa. However, when backing up it stutters, when making a tight turn for example, to park, it stutters. It has lunged in automatic mode when I was coasting on a metered freeway on ramp. Because it is a universal problem the dealer would only replace it with a manual. Sorry, I told the dealer 2008 which has a new transmission and software. The dealer is confirming the problem does not exist with the 2008.
