i have a 05 525i that I bought from a dealership used. It is still under warrenty and I have taken it to the dealership to have some minor work on it. One of the problems is the car kinda hisitates when I start it and now the engine sounds like it wants to shut off when it is in idle. The issue is apparently I bought a car that had a sirius radio installed by BMW and is no longer in the car. My service advisor tells me that the car can not be fixed due to the missing sirius radio...... has anyone heard of this? Please let me I would love to start driving me Bimmer again

thanks

Ben

Well if its under warranty its kinda their problem. Do they give you a loaner car? If its nice then i say drive the loaner til they fix it. I dont know what else to say honestly.

Dude, if the sirius was installed and now it isn't working they need to order the new computer.

They are probably balking because it costs a grand and takes about 4 hours to reprogram. Don't let them off the hook, make them replace it.

I had the exact samething happen to me. No on your part, but the car needed to be programmed to fix a complaint. Programming a BMW is like updating the software in your PC. Say you remove your hard drive, and try to update it. Won't work right? I kow thats a bad terminology, but just for instance. All the dealership has to do is comntact PUMA, let them know what is going on. PUMA will then attach a "vehicle order" to the puma case. A "vehicle order" is how the vehicle knows what options it has. The "vehicle order" attached to the PUMA case has to be burnt onto a CD. Then they program the vehicle again only with this disk in the CD drive. This will delete the Sat radio option form your "vehicle order". So what is happening is when they go to program the vehicle a measures plan comes up to tell them what is going to need programmed. When that comes up it tells then that the Sat radio module needs to be repalced, since it's not getting a signal from that module. Hopefully that makes since. Just tell them to contact PUMA nad have them get a new vehicle order. Do not refer to this forum in anyway. Thank you.

Thats doesn't solve anything. Nor does it have anything to do with what he's talkin about. He needs to do what I stated above. The dealership needs to get a new VO from PUMA.

If the car had satellite at one time, but is now lacking the control unit for it, reprogramming the vehicle is not possible. When the programming station goes through to program the vehicle it'll get stuck looking for the satellite module that isn't there because the current vehicle order tells it that there should be one there.

If the sirius module was removed without rearranging the fiber optics, the entire MOST bus would go down. Does the radio work?

Regardless, the status of the MOST bus has no effect on the engine.

If the actually removed the module, they'd have to rearrange the MOST bus (fiber optic system) to loop out the SAT module. So if the radio, and other audio works, then they did this. But he's right about the vehicle order. The VO thinks there's a SAT in the car, and if there's not, it probably won't let you program it because it can't find that module. So I guess we can "Retrofit" to add SDARS, but can't remove it?

I haven't seen the vehicle but when I received the one I had the same problem on, someone jsut took a fiber optic ring like the ones in the E65 glovebox and put it in place of the sirius module. So there was no break in the most bus it jsut thought that the module was still there transmitting light.

vehicles without logic7 amp, will still have a functional audio system if the sdars control unit is removed. you cannot remove sdars from the VO yourself. its not like the old versions of CIP in which you could delete the 3 digit codes from the ZCS/VO.

just tell them to get a sdars unit from another vehicle, and then when the measures plan states it will take XXX amount of time to program the vehice., then remove the sdars unit, loop out the most, and click continue to program the vehicle.
