The SS brake lines do take some of the Springy feel out of the pedal though.

I don't track mine but did the SS brake lines for a better pedal feel.

Of course you stop noticing the difference in about 10 minutes of driving.

I suppose that someday I need to drive a dead stock 840 just to remind myself that mine isn't ordinary anymore (that is if you could accuse any 8 series of being ordinary):)

TerryY,

What mods do you have?: Engine Performance & Supsension!

I believe I will be Supercharging my '94 840Ci with a ESS VTI 7PSI Supercharge System

I should get roughly 440Hp with the Nikasil sleeved engine!

Currently I have:
Wokke engine chip
Dinan transmission chip
18" OZ wheels with about as much tire as I can get in the wheel wells
K-Mac camber plates
H&R springs (front clipped 1/2 turn for the K-mac height, rear raised 3/8" for tire clearance)
Bilstiens all around
Grunts poly bushings in the front upper arms
K-Bar anti roll bars (now extinct)
3.64 differential
Odd front spoiler (from Wings West, only know of two)

Coming soon:
Magnaflows--still dithering about if I really want it louder or to try to sneak up on people:)
M62 4.4 liter motor converted to OBD1 (10% displacement increase and 120,000 fewer miles than the original M60 Nicasil motor)
6 speed conversion (With the 3.64 gears to start-Old drag racers never die--we just drive different toys!)
The motor and six speed are in the garage awaiting my full attention. Still gathering parts-need an e34 or e31 manual pedal box yet.

Terry....Did you get the M3 strut tower Caps? They are good to keep the contaminants out of the strut top and the Camber area. This is what I had on my old 840 (Dyamm...I miss that car).

Can you have both a Strong Strut and a camber kit installed on the same car?

How about a camber kit, SStrut, and the M3 covers?:shifty

Never remember to order them:(The M3 tower caps want fit with the corn nuts that comes with the Strongstrut, You will have to use your original tower nuts.

Aura, Yes to camber and the strut brace, With the M3 caps you have to use the oringinal nuts instead of the fancy corn nuts it comes with.

Thanks 8Eights! Are the M3 caps an OEM part or an aftermarket part that was originally made for M3s? I want to source a pair.

Also, anyone notice a difference with the SStrut? Our cars already are some of the stiffest BMWs I have ever seen in terms of flex.

There OEM M3! IMO if you have the strut brace you don't need them, The original dust caps fit perfect and you get to use the nice corn nuts that comes with the strut brace, I have a brand new set laying around, I think they were only $12.00 to $15.00 The Strutt does make the car stiffer as Faisal pointed out a while ago, Jack your car up from the front side with and without the strutt, You will see the difference right away, Besides! It looks killer.....

Considering ordering the strut brace and acorn nut kit. Why can't you use the original factory tower caps with the Strongstrut? Also: 1. Can you use the acorn nut kit if you are still able to use the factory tower caps? 2. Must the oversized negative grounding nut on the passenger side tower on a 96 840 have to be removed in order to fit the strut brace? 3. Does the tight fitting wire bundle riding on the drivers side tower routing have to be altered in order to install the strut brace?

The Acorn nuts come with the Strong Strut, I use the original caps with mines and it's great, I bought the M3 caps before i had SStruts, The brace bolts right on without any needed mods, If you have a V12, You need to order for a V12 because of the Neg. Post cut out. Here's a pic with the stock tower dust caps.

So will the stock dust caps fit when I've got the camber plates & SStrut fitted to my car or do I have to buy these M3 ones?

Hello

Is a strut brace good for chasis or could it cause any damage to chasis/suspension if fitted on its own without lower and back struts?

I have MWrench Static plates, They are fitted beneath the shock tower.

I have MWrench Static plates, They are fitted beneath the shock tower.I see. I ordered mine from Wuffer when I got a set of rear shock supports. Which of the two camber kits do you feel is better?

Curiosity, what other E31 specific parts did/does Mwrench offer? I seem to remember he also has his own SS lines?

The kits I supply from Phoenix Motorsport are the MWrench Camber Plates. Ed no longer had any desire to produce them and granted Phoenix manufacturing rights - so, same part either way. 8-)
Ed no longer supplies SS Brake lines either but now available from Phoenix here: http://www.wuffer.net/_mgxroot/page_phoenix__motorsport.html

When my brakes need to be done, I am getting a set!

Along with those billet dipstick handles (from the looks of it, it will work fine with either a M62 or a M73 as well) :shifty

Wuffer, since you are "the Phoenix" in my mind, and they have a CNC machine....how hard would it be to have the plastic hood-release handle made from Al? :confused Would it possible to have one made for say $500?

In aside, I would love to get said handle in the brushed Al look (made of solid Al of course). But that is just icing....if they can make it out of metal, I can paint it as needed. :)

If you need a mold, I am also more then willing to buy one from Gault and ship it your way (though I am sure you probably can get your hands on one rather easily seeing how you have E31s around you like I have only in my dreams...:shifty

If you're going to paint it anyway, why don't you paint the cheap plastic handle?

I would rather not paint the Al version, but will if I *have* to make it match...but it shouldn't be hard to get it in anodized aluminum. :confused

I want a proper metal handle since (other then I believe our cars should have one give the original asking price), I have had those stupid BMW plastic release handles warp over time and even crack one cold day (though not on my 8...that's still in the warped phase). :nono

I am very serious of getting one for my E31! (and E38 too, but hey I will settle for at least one at first :shifty)

Wuffer, any updates?

From Phoenix: "Yes, this could be done within that budget and I had been thinking of these together with seat tilt handles but rejected it due to cost.

If this inquiry is serious I will price them up for 1 and 5. What finish would be required? Polished, anodised or as-machined. With such a request, I would require a deposit to make it."

Auraraptor
07-23-2008, 12:31 PM
How much of a deposit is needed?

Depending on how much, I will paypal you the deposit of the amount you request either partially now, or in full next week on the 31st (Payday!) and leave a note to that effect for myself as not to forget.

I would like anodized Al, as to match my ex-E39 parking brake handle and my ex-E60 shifter. Anodized is proper name of brushed Al correct? I want it to match this (shifter insert color, not Idrive color):

Also, do you have pictures of the Anodised Door lock Pins installed in the car?

A brushed aluminium finish is effectively bare aluminium that has a finish similar to alloy rubbed down with 1200 grade, very fine abrahsive, the anodising not only colours but hardens the surface to reduce scratching the soft alloy and would look similar to the i-drive dial. To get a finish similar to the almost black-chrome of the shifter, the item is highly polished and then anodised, but it will not have the dark tint. I can do all these finishes to the handles and door pins.
some
I will post some fitted door pin pics asap.

Handles? I know from the factory later cars had chrome. I am going to eventually have them redone in the same matte chrome/brushed Al as well. :shifty I can't wait for pictures!

Whatever the method the factory employs to get the brushed Al/Matte Chrome, look, I would like to have it as it will then match with my interior.

... Anodized is proper name of brushed Al correct? ....

NO. Brushing is a mechanical treatment as already explained above while anodizing is a chemical process. It actually is an artificial corrosion. Aluminium oxide is much harder that aluminium itself protecting the material this way. This means that anodizing is the very last thing to do in the production process.
