I have a 1995 e38 730i auto, battery went flat and locked me out, local garage opened boot changed battery, car doors remained deadlocked they bypassed a circuit in the boot to open windows. I can put key in ignition and get ignition lights on dash but engine will not crank and doors all remain locked. There is only one keyhole on drivers door(passengers is blank) I have tried turning key with handle half way but no joy. Garage tried two different scanners in OBD socket neither will communicate. Does anyone have a solution for starting engine and removing deadlock?

Try inserting the key and turning it WITHOUT lifting the door handle. You are using the procedure for the e32/e34/e36 etc (according to the e38 models we have here in the States).

Second thought, check your owners manual for the proper procedure...we don't have your model here...just in case it is different.

Maybe you should try reinitializing your key, too. Does it have a red LED light that illuminates when you press the lock/unlock buttons? If it does and the LED is not lighting up...you need to replace the batteries in your key as well. There should be instructions in your owners manual on how to reinitialize your key, too. Again, a recommend your manual, since it may be different than the ones we have on this side of the pond. :)

E38 MANUAL (Emergency lock/unlock) procedure (note it says nothing of lifting the door handle): :)

Instructions on how to change the remotes battery...CHECK you owners manual...your 95 may have two batteries and they may be a different size than the ones indicated in this text:
