Hi all.
That’s my first post, and this forum kicks.
But I have questions which bugging me for some time, and I wonder if other BMW owners experience the same, and it’s normal, or it’s just my car.
I have 06 330i with 225/45/17 tires. Now, the noise coming from the tires is very noticeable at any speed (I think even more in slower driving). Is that something common or it’s just my tires?
Another thing, since I got the car, I noticed that the steering wheel is like to jump out of hands on the uneven road. Didn’t experience it in Japanese cars, but their steering is much lighter, so I thought it could of been a reason. Anyways, what do you think?

Yea I think its just the tires. Might need new ones or an alighment check. All tires make noise some more than others.

What kind of tires are on your car right now?

How many miles have you used them for?

How much tread is left?

That will help us out a lot more in order to help you with the issue.

you might want to get an alignment and some new tires that are not run-FAT, I had the same issue. I got some new tires, mine were pretty gone, and an alignment and everything was fine afterwards.

You might want to check your tires, feel them with your hand, check if there are any areas where the tire is bulging a bit and check the tread area itself with your hand, not just the sidewalls. If the tire is not a smooth circle, you might want to look into getting some new tires.

That is how I checked mine and realized there were several little "hills" on the tires. I don't know what else to call them.

Hope this helps.

Would I still be able to return the car to a deler with the none runflat tires after the lease ends? Or maybe I should save these and put them back before returning the car?

I am not sure, you should do what you think is best for you. I would put the tires back on though.

Are the tires on seperate wheels, or are they just off and on the side somewhere. If you have them on seperate wheels it would be just easier to put them back on, if they are not on seperate wheels maybe you don't want to go through the hassle of having to put the tires on the wheels that are on your car right now.

But still, you should do what you think will be more efficient for you.

There is a BMW bulletin about the Turanza Runflats on e90s. They get uneven wear and cupping leading to excessive road noise. Depending on how many miles you have on the tires, they will cover them or partially cover them. 26k is probably to late.

I found some Michelin Pilot Primacy for $202 installed + tx. I think it's a good deal and fine tires. The only concern I have is that I won't have a spare tire, in case of a flat. Is it possible to buy some cheap wheel so I'd put the old tire on it?

yea the road noise is fine in my car, but I can always hear the wheels alot more than driving an average car, my tires are pretty new too... i guess its just the car

the deal with leases is the following: you have to return the car with tires similar to what you leased the car with, with at least 1/2 the tread left, meaning: runflats with 1/2 tread.

my wife's car has the exact same problem. it drives me crazy, but she doesn't notice it. however, when i took it to the dealership to check it out, i was told that the cost to replace the tires was $1400. if the noise is killing you, i recommend getting a set of used rims and some non-runflats, and using those... save the runflats and just swap the wheels/tires back when you return the lease. however, if you are past the 1/2 tread level, then you are stuck getting runflats all over again (unless you have a package that covers the tires, which i do).

I had a vehicle with Toyo Proxus Tires on it and they were creating noise because a ball joint went bad and caused choppy wear on the inside of the tire. We found the bad ball joints through getting it Aligned so try that.

When I picked up my 98 328i a few years ago it had a set of pretty worn Kumho tires. At speeds below 20 it sounded like I was driving a Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Once I swapped them for a set of Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires, the noise completely went away.

I just swapped for an 04 325Ci coupe with decent ContiSports and while not as noisy as the Kumho's, below 20 mph they sound like all 4 wheel bearings are shot! Next stop is the Michelin store.
