I pretty much have $650 to spend on a set of wheels for my e36... im not looking to go stock, so no requests for ///M wheels or ltws or what not, and the price does not include tires. what says bf.c I get?

Just check Tire Rack's spec sheet for all the tires listed in the 235/40-17 size. You'll find the measuring rim width is 8.5 inches. I ran them on my e36 with no issues and they looked perfect.
