This cage came out of my race car. I'm building a custom 8 point cage, so out with the old in with the new...:)

This is for a 2dr e36 with sunroof, It's a bolt-in. I have used it only in this car. It comes with all you need for an easy installation, all original hardware.

Where do the rear bars attach to? Do the seats have to come out?

I never used it w/seats but here is a pic from kirkracing.com and the seats are there. I would say that the side part of the back seats had to be removed or cut a bit.

HaHa, that's my car in the pic. The rollbar fits where the bolsters are on the back seat. You would have to modify the bolster to get it to fit in place properly so I took them out. They were just wedged in there for the pic. You can't use the backseat with the rollbar in there anyway so it doesn't matter.

I'm coming into ATL this Sat..staying in Norcross that night and then onto August for an afternoon wedding. Driving back through ATL again late Sunday night back to Birmingham.
I'm selling my LTW wing to Tim Ng (meeting him Sat afternoon in Norcross).

If it's still available, would you be willing to meet up Sat afternoon for sale transaction?

Is the price $250 firm?

Yes still for sale, There is a member that wants it too but I'm waiting for it. I thought $250 will be a good deal for fellow members since the comp. bars start at $405.

Where does the line start for this transaction?
i.e. who's first, second..etc etc.

I'm coming into ATL this Sat afternoon. But first stop is Norcross to drop off a LTW spoiler for a BMWCCA member then I can meet up with you after that.

Let me know if this is feasible for you.

This is a good price; I just bought jlcmd81's nearly identical bar in Birmingham last month for $250 and I'm more than happy with it.

For those wondering about the back seats, here are pictures of mine:

I get them at the summit racing store by my house. They are open 9 to 9 7 days a week so you can get them after picking up the cage. :D

Did you have problem with your sunroof while the bar is installed?
I have it wedged it the car correctly in the install position and haven't bolted to the floor pan yet but I noticed my sunroof hesitates when I try to open it.
Then in the close position, I could tell (from the outside of the car) that it (sunroof) bulges from the weather stripping...
I'm assuming my carpet adds to the height which pushes the roll bar into the roof a bit. I just want to make sure that the bar doesn't permanently damage my roof cassette since it's apply pressure to it constantly?
Thoughts or comment? :help
Thanks...

Thanks Monchai aka mcbk1452.

Thanks for helping me with everything. You went beyond the call of duty to help me unbolt both of my seats and remove my old harness bar to put the roll bar in for transportation purposes. I appreciate the sweat that went along with it.
Thanks again !!! :buttrock

Good luck with that race car and I'm sure you will do well !!!

No problem.

Regarding your issue with the sunroof keep on mind that the bar hasn't been bolt it down so everything is lose "main loop point". I will recommend getting the new bolts to sandwich the carpet foam and the floor pan, once it gets bolted down it will be as compact as it will be and that will give some extra clearance for the sunroof to slide back and fort.

Rafa.

Yeah, we had to cut the carpet, I had the same problems.

http://miklm.com/img/tmp/cars/bmw/BMW325is/cimg3705.jpg

There are also some plastic bits under the carpet that hold some wires in place that we had to trim the corners to get the bar to set in further down. The screws that hold the plastic in place will have to be removed also.

It took quite a while to get it to fit right, but once it is in its very very snug and seems to be pretty secure.

*edit*
Also, from that picture, that was while we were working and the bottom mount is back even closer to the back seat now to get rid of that gap. We used a rubber hammer to knock it back as far as it could go, along with my brother who is 6'4"/275+ -- I never could have got it all in place without some muscle to help.

I hate to cut into the carpet but if those longer bolts doesn't work then I may have too. :(

You can try without cutting it and see if it works. I just know my car will inevitably be a full-on stripped track car, so its not so bad to cut it now. It was in a wreck and I bought it back from State Farm and actually "made" money on the deal (what I paid for the car when I bought it was $500 less than their settlement price, including me keeping the car as a salvage buy-back)

I'm doing my own bodywork/paint so my car won't be "perfect" but I like having a project to work on.

Yeah, that's the way to go for a track car is to buy "salvaged" ones.

It'll be a while till I turn the m3 into a fully dedicated track car since I'd like something fun to drive on weekends. 4 small drilled holes through the carpeting is not bad.
Are you planning on mounting a video camera on the bar? Any suggestions?

Do NOT use the roll bar without cutting the carpet and bolting directly to the floorpan. And other method is a BIG NO NO:nono You do not have to cut a hole but just a slit so you pull the carpet up. When you remove the bar you can lay the carpet back down, comb it and use 2 sided tape to fix the carpet so it is not noticeable.

Yes, I have a camera mounted.

Took me a while to find the actual mount I used...

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=140&A=details&Q=&sku=221096&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

I just drilled a hole for a bolt coming through the bottom that's long enough to catch the camera mounting head, it was a standard bolt from a hardware store, I just bought a few of different lengths that fit the threads. It was like 2-1/4" or so?

Anyway, that was a LOT cheaper than buying a fancy roll cage video camera mount, but if you want to go that route, check out ChaseCam:

I have one of their 3-point suction mounts, and it is awesome!

Camera mount - Yes, I'm too cheap to spend $100 on I/O Port camera mount.
But wasn't sure if I had enough tools and materials to fabricate something sturdy enough. But your method seems easy enough. I'm going to have to try that. Home Depot is my friend :D ...I've spent wayyy too much money there already since renovating my condo. :(

HPDE @ Barber - Last time, I checked, the online registration wasn't open yet. There's some meeting this Sunday(I think ?) about it but no details yet except the time. But yes, I'm planning on doing that, I've cleared my schedule (summer semester is just starting so it's ok..not much reading yet).

Mike - Thanks, I'll definitely will do that. Cutting a slit is no big deal but a square chunk is another story.

All you need is a decent drill and bit, and finding the right size bolt to go on the mini ball head mount.

Registration is open at http://www.motorsportsreg.com and has been for a couple of weeks now -- there are 53 people signed up right now. Its $385 for the two days

Ahh, I see. I was on the Dixie BMCCA's website and they keep saying that registration will be soon (for the past weeks). I'm not familiar with that other website above. So I should go sign up there instead of the dixie's website:

Yeah, Carol Lowery sent out an email (which I must have deleted) with a link to the motorsportsreg site for registration. I don't know why they haven't updated the albmwcca.org site yet, but registration is definitely open.

I will think of a exteral camera mount rather than an internal where drilling the hole will bring weakness to the cage. You all might think that it doesn't mater since the hole is been fit it w/a think bolt but after learnig on how to build a roll cage over the pass 2 years the only hole I'm drilling is for tech inspection. Besides there are already to many holes in the cage already :rolleyes

I made one out or a piece of metal w/ 4 holes and 2 pipe hangers. I'll take a pic later.

That camera mount is in no was sufficient. A light wreck would snap the bottom plate off the camera and throw it thru the windsheild. If your going to use it, make sure to use a tether with it
