I don't care if he did an M42 swap later, that is no way to treat an M10 motor.

watching that video was like watching...i dont even know how to describe it in human terms without being graphic or grotesque. call me crazy but my heart seriously dropped.
at least i know the small knocking in my car isnt like that.
what a shame. he probably painted his M42 valve cover red and painted the block gloss black then affixed //M badges all over his car.
Euro320iRacer 03-20-2007, 09:57 PM Gasp, Im going to cry... What a jackass, if I saw him, he'll die. Theres no point of doing that to a BMW motor.

blitzed310 03-20-2007, 11:22 PM Meh, so what, go out with a bang. Better then to let it sit in a garage till it rots, or in a yard.
These are what memories are for.
bensmall 03-20-2007, 11:34 PM :( ...a pointless waste. shows a lack of respect for an otherwise fine piece of machinery.
Broly238 03-20-2007, 11:47 PM Poor M10 :(
He lives near me :devillook
jmmymac 03-20-2007, 11:53 PM reminds of a video i once saw of an old 8v scirrocco (sp?), some guy sat in his drive way and did the same thing. then he had a fast forward video of him pulling the engine out, rebuilding it, putting it back in and then doing a little burnout in reverse out of the garage. i wish i had the link i think i was floating around vortex for a while, one of my vw friends showed it to me a few years ago

i agree. but he could have tried to sell it first, or drove it at least.
good & tight 03-21-2007, 08:58 AM They mad millions of those engines, no big deal plus I have blown up quite a few:devillook
jrcook320 03-21-2007, 09:58 AM You guys are the idiot E21 owners. I laughed my ass off when I saw this video. "oh, I can't believe he did that to an m10!!" Are you serious? Like an m10 is hard to come by or something special? I know of about 5 m10's in local junkyards in my area, and BMW's are not common here. That motor was a piece of shit with a rod knock on its last leg.
but he could have tried to sell it first, or drove it at least.
Sell or drive what? He pulled the motor to swap in an m42 and the car was 10x better afterward than it ever would have been before. The motor he blew up was worthless. It's worth more as scrap than as a running motor and you all know it. Anyone that would pay more than $5 for an m10 with a rod knock is a retard.
I wish I'd have done that to the 200k + engine I pulled out of my car. Instead it has sat in the corner of the garage with the oil pan off collecting dust and sand. In fact, I'm dissappointed he didn't duraspooge 3000 that thing. He should have poored beer and gravel into the crank case, then sprayed ether into the intake to make sure it stayed well past 8k rpm.
what a shame. he probably painted his M42 valve cover red and painted the block gloss black then affixed //M badges all over his car.
What, you mean like my m10?
blitzed310 03-21-2007, 11:15 AM He should have had the motor blessed, then make a velvet lined crate, buried it in Munich, and pray to Alex von Falkenhausen for forgiveness of abandoning the O'Holy grail that is the M10. Like duh, this motor made 1500 hp in qualifying, it should get the respect and honor it deserves just like the other 3.52 million M10 engines that have seen their demise.
Broly238 03-21-2007, 11:17 AM For some reason, I just dont like destroying things with no purpose. Its like breaking a guitar on stage, just because you have more doesn't make it cool. If that makes me an idiot, so be it. But I dont really care.
blitzed310 03-21-2007, 11:20 AM I guess no one understands that it was a toasted motor. Why save it? Who would buy it? At least they can all have a laugh about it, and remember the good time for years to come.
Im going to go find me one in a yard that works, and record myself draining the motor oil and sticking a brick on the accelerator while I spray fuel on it with a super soaker.

BoostedE21 03-21-2007, 11:41 AM :lol :lol
Yeah guys, that motor was toast. The knock was pretty bad which means alot of work to rebuild it and alot of money. Why not just have fun with it? Shit i prolly would have done the same, but my knock on my first motor was no where near that bad.
Its a motor guys, sometimes they go, sometimes they dont.

roffle at burrying it in munich.
Stephen V 03-21-2007, 12:04 PM weak, there are much better ways to kill a motor! I would have at least taken it out and driven around to do that. I have AAA.
jrcook320 03-21-2007, 12:09 PM CJ, that is the burial ceremony that every m10 deserves. :rofl
He could have done a top speed run then money shifted into 2nd or 1st and watched a rod come flying through the hood. haha.
I have a motor lying on the garage floor. After seeing everyong flipping out about this I'm going to get it running and video the most brutal death I can imagine just to make baby jesus cry.

i completely agree. if i wsa toasting an engine, i would drive it till it blew up, not just sit in a garage and rev it... quite boring.

If you noticed, he would have only made it down the street, it lasted all but 15 seconds.

he mentioned that he drained the oil though in the youtube listing... I wouldn't have taken the oil out.
e21gangsta 03-21-2007, 01:14 PM boo fuckin hoo
Broly238 03-21-2007, 01:55 PM I would have driven it, if not just around my block, I'd rather see my engine die moving then die by supah' revving it.
Yes, its an engine, but it looks like some people feel they have a connection to engines, even if they are bound for only a junk yard. But we can do this in a 'grown up fashion', not sure if some of you know what that is. :)

Work must be slow today? ;)
vtgti 03-21-2007, 03:53 PM I can't wait till it's time to replace my engine. ;)
sonomaGTLN2 03-21-2007, 04:22 PM maybe i overreacted initially but I still think its an absolute waste. but then again if it sat in a garage or was junked it would be wasted anyways. oh well, im over it.

I work at my own pace.

I hope to see the duraspooge video. Make sure to use beer as an oil additive.

IMO, anyone who says this is a jackass:
Gasp, Im going to cry... What a jackass, if I saw him, he'll die. Theres no point of doing that to a BMW motor.
The motor is wasted either way, if you're gonna pull it and junk it you might as well have fun with it and blow it up.
In reality I'm keeping my extra m10 around so I have a spare block to build up with s14 crank and forged pistons for my next turbo setup. That way I can have a badass shortblock built up and ready to slap my head and pan on, then just drop it in with minimal downtime.

:redspot Can't wait to see your new place and hear about the E21 plans. We need to set up a little rendez-vous for the gang sometime soon. Everyone up here still talks of you with a little bit of a sad tone wishing you were around more often.
ProjectP 03-21-2007, 06:42 PM Ive seen an S54 reved to fuel cut with no oil in it. Lasted about 20-25 seconds with a lot of white smoke.

I hope so too. :shifty
Let me know when you plan another trip up to Phx.
E36Chubbs 03-21-2007, 08:16 PM I would rather see an engine go out like this that like that....

I wouldn't. The m10 was a junk motor worth $5 for scrap. That's a good candidate to have fun.
That m54 was a hotrod turbo engine with probably over $6000 invested. What a stupid way to ruin a motor.

motor was just fine after that. Just your typical e36 radiator/overflow cracking. That video is 2 years old and filmed at rimpros' burnout day. A better video from that day is a lightning that melts(literally) its rotors and sets the brakes on fire during a brake stand.:eyecrazy
