:confused Are you being serious?

I mean, the spoiler is ... well, in my opinion, I think it takes away from the beautiful design of the e38. That is to say, I think the car would look better without it.

Sure, looks are one thing.... if I wanted it for looks, I'd get that crappy carbon fiber lip or whatever the hell they call it.

This one above looks very euro-sport! Has an overt quality, while still being understated. It blends nicely if you ask me! I like the plain look, too, but there's an issue (at least to me) of them all kind of looking the same. This is one way to stand apart in the 'looks' department.

What about DOWN FORCE! That lip thingy gonna give me the hook-up? I dunno... but I do *know* wouldn't resort to one of those dirt-track goofy aluminum airfoil spoilers that the kiddies are puttin' on their civics... now that's TACKY! :D

Even when comparing all of the Sevens in those pix, you gotta admit that the ones without the deck spoiler kind of have a stuffy, grandpa quality to them... really conservative.

The one with the deck spoiler says: hey, I am worth the finer things in life, but if you try to catch me... I am GONE (I know that the quad-outs on those above also lend to that, too ;))! Which leads me to my next Q: Why is there no ///M7???

And if you don't think a little plastic never helped out in the looks department, I got 2 words for ya... Pamela Anderson!! :D:D

Hi!

Thanks for the reference. I did read through the post.
I agree...it is not an M car. I never said it is an M car or claim to have one. hence no "///M7", just "///M 740i". I place the badge there for personal preference because the car has some ///M elements. I knew well before hand many would disagree...but to each his own.

For example, many enthusiasts debadge their cars ///M or any other series, get Alpina accessories or any official offering from companies like Hammann, Dinan, Racing Dynamics, or opt for the sport look even if they are not sport versions? I even seen m5 style kits for the 7 series..so ask THEM why they do this?

So it boils down to preference. I personally like it and I am not the guy to place an exuberant amount of decals, install non-functioning parts, or aftermarket fake ///M products (floor mats, pedals, embroidery, shift knobs, I've seen it all).

Thank you for your comments and for being honest.

All the reasearch has been done. I don't claim to have a "Sport Package" just because of Shadowline trim and a 3.15 diff. If fact, my sig says so. I also lowered my suspension, tinted windows and installed 275 tires in the back and OEM M-Pars wheels. None of these are ///M Elements.

Thanks for the comments and clarification. The e38 sport does come with the ///M package..or ///M elements ..or whatever you may call it. I never claimed to have an ///M series car. Hence no ///M7, which personally I think is Ridiculous. I have seen 7 series with this. When you purchase an M3, M5, M6, the dealer doesnt tell you "oh it has the ///M package too". It already has everything ///M included. You can go to your dealer and buy any sport model and ask them for the ///M package. (///M steering wheel and M-Par's or any M rims).

Now back to your sig, if I seen your car rolling down the street..I would say ooohh..look at that sweet e38 sport...then suddenly I find out that it is not the sport version? This can't be compared to my car..if you know anything about M series car which never included the 7 series, hence no "///M7" I put the ///M badge there for personal preference. "///M 740i" Didn't you add the shadowline trim, M'pars for personal preference? exactly...or has anyone ask you if it is a true sport? Some would flame you? or others will not...I will never cause it boils down to preference.

My cardomain site does have info on what is included in e38 sport with the ///M package. Go verify with BMW NA on what ///M package consists of.

I was thinking that 19" rims would work well. I have 18" rims on there now, but I don't know if 20" rims would look too thin.

I wonder if I got 20" rims, would the tire size increase (relative to what I have now) and thus make it unnecessary to lower the car?

Either way, it seems to me that the back looks a little high as-is, so I think I would lower both the front and the back equally.

This was done by a few dealers here in the US. I saw such a car and spoke to the owner of that car several years ago.

As I recall this is what he told me...
From a performance perspective the shocks & springs were different than those found on non-sport cars.
Generally an E38 M-Package was more cosmetic than higher performance. The dealership fitted the trunk's M badges and the steering wheel and rims were OEM M-branded.
The motor & transmission were stock and depended upon the specific type of E38 base model chosen to outfit with M trim, which I took to mean a non Sport E38 could be fitted and badged with the M Package if the buyer wanted to write the check.

Then again, he may have done all that to his car himself and then lied about it...

GroovyDrifter

You will have to lower it. changing from 16" to 18" leaves too much "air"... so going to a bigger wheel... żlowering from original or from already lowered?
