View Full Version : Local FS: DLP Samsung HL-S5687 HDTV
scorch268 03-20-2007, 05:41 PM This thing is too big for my tiny place (says the wife-to-be). Anyway, it is a HL-S5687, one of the best DLP/ HDTV's on the market. I bought it about 7 months ago.
Anyway, I'll let it go for 1,600 including the stand.
here is a review (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HL-S5687W-1080p-DLP-HDTV/dp/B000F2P2XI/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-9799695-4787944?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1174426810&sr=8-1)
FAST5 03-20-2007, 05:52 PM Consider selling it w/o the stand for a lower price?
Nice TV. 1080p Pwns.
Easy fix. Get rid of the wife to be. That's what I would do.

scorch268 03-20-2007, 07:36 PM I'm looking for a 40" LCD HDTV now, specifically the samsung LN-S4095D.
Anyone have the hookup? I'll trade :)

If your considering the 4095, look at the Sony 40v2500. Same panel as the Samsung but much better processing. Had the 4095, calibrated it, couldn't get it quite like I wanted and went for the Sony. Love the color/black levels on the Sony, and I still haven't put in all the effort that I did for the overly contrasty Samsung.
CVGTURBO86 03-21-2007, 12:30 AM Why does this seem so cheap? my 37 inch was 1500...:confused
zeit00 03-21-2007, 08:01 AM Because you bought yours too early. Like me. Do you remember when DVD players where over $1000.. Now they are like $20

I bought my first HDTV 5-6 years ago. Its feels as if it weighs 200 pounds and is about as deep as it is wide. Technology has come a long way in a short amount of time.
krisko 03-21-2007, 10:40 AM While on the subject, does anybody here know about calibrating displays? I have a Mitsubishi projector and a 108" diagonal screen that I absolutely love but I know it can look better. I've rented the Avia calibration disc but I have a feeling I didn't get the settings right and I didn't have the blue filter to get the color right.
I'm willing to pay for a pro or beers and wings for an amateur. Maybe we can make a movie night out of it or something.

Your best bet will be to pick up a copy of Digital Video Essentials from Amazon or somewhere. Unless your projector is a really high end one, this should be enough. You will need to recalibrate it from time to time, so its not a bad investment. Keep in mind that the DVD calibration discs will only calibrate your projector for DVD playback. From there, you will need to eye it for HDTV. Although, I think they now have a Blueray version out.
Another option is the Windows Media Version (Pro Edition, I think) but thats big bucks and requires your computer to be hooked up.

i dont beleive he should trade for yours anyways if you wanted to. your TV is not a true native 1080P display you have a max of 1080I.
you got a nice TV but his is better and not because its bigger

Honestly, if you want, jump on www.AVSforum.com and read over some of the reviews on your specific projector. I'd feel pretty certain that someone has done what you'd like and has posted the specs so that you can (somewhat) replicate the results. I will say this, not sure what screen you have, but it's going to play a pretty large role in the picture you receive, so the settings you may read about may not give you the most accurate picture the OP received.
krisko 03-21-2007, 09:32 PM I've done exactly that with no replies. I know people are running the HD1000u with a laminate screen but I guess nobody has calibrated it yet.
