I have a '97 pre-Vanos M62 that I need to convert to OBD1 so that I don't have to meld OBD2 controls into my 840. I am replacing an OBD1 M60.
So far every M60 sensor position exists in some form on the M62 except the Crank Position sensor. That involves fabricating a bracket and using the M60 vibration damper with the teeth. Both motors use the same hub for the damper so physically it is a direct bolt on.
The Cam Position Sensor is going to require modification of the steel trip ring mounted on/with the camshaft drive sprocket. And maybe a spacer to make the 1 mm spacing with the M60 sensor (which is longer). Depends on how I end up modifying the ring- I have a new ring on the way to do it on.
All of the water and temperature sensors have threaded plugs in the M62 at the M60 locations and an M60 water pump and thermostat housing will take care of replacing the automated thermostat.
The knock sensors should just swap over along with most all of the smaller mechanical parts that look different like the fuel rail.
The "improved" M62 intake manifold looks like it should work on the M60. No more oil puddles in the manifold!!
What am I missing? I really hope that I don't find any big surprises when the two engines are sitting side by side on the floor. I am going to have enough fun on the transmission end :)
