I am heading down to Firebird this Thursday with a friend who has a 328i. Hopefully we can get a good turnout. Starts at 6pm, and it's $15 to race all night. So, since it's getting cold at night, we can lay down some great times. Who's interested??

It shouldn't be that crowded since Thursday is Import night. Last time I went I got 5 runs, and could have had more.

I'll see how much work I have due on Friday. If I don't have much then I'll probably go. I'm not sure if I'll race though. One I need a helmet now :evil2 and two, I'm not sure if I want to push the beast that hard again. Hopefully, if there's little or no work due on Friday then at least you can count on another spectator.

I have to work that night, so unless I can switch with someone at work I won't be there. I'll see what I can do though, track nights are a blast:evil2

Hey man, was that you I ran with around 9 pm (I had the black 328 in the left lane)? Is your 97 white? If so, good race!

Eric,

Had fun runnin' with ya. Had to leave around 9. Did you run any better than the 1x.4? BTW, which diff. do you have? later

Sup Bryan?

15.453 was my best time @ 89.57 MPH

2.26 was the best 60 foot time.

I'm running a 3.73 LSD with the m20 (read: Shitty) transmission. Going to the proper tranny and a lower diff (3.73 will be too high) may be enough to bust into the very high 14's.

bryan-
yes i ran with you. i was going to talk with you after the run but you went back to the staging lanes. why didn't come hang with us?? anyway, fun run, i've got it on video, i'll email it to you!!

eric-
great job on getting some great times. i am sure that your car is hating you right now!! i've got pics of your car as well, sorry no video, i'll email them if you'd like.

i won't even talk about my times. i will def. have to try and find some time to go practice more launching. my best 60' was 2.3. so......i've launched a total of 5 times in this car now.

Your car ran great, man. I didn't get any better than that 15.1 @ 95. 14's for me = a 3.23 LSD and my short-shift kit. Or an M3.

Here are some pictures. Keep in mind that I did not select 'night scene' and therefore the shutter speed was too fast and thats why the pics came out blurry.

How did you trap 95mph with a near stock 328? What was your 60'?

My best run is 15.2 at 91mph and the car is not running any faster.

Here're the details of the run:

60': 2.423
1/8: 9.879 @ 73.35
1/4: 15.138 @ 94.67

I wasn't launching hard at all, going easy on the clutch. But I was shifting at about 6800 rpm, and tripped the lights still in 3rd near redline (redline=7k RPM). If/when I put in a 3.23 LSD, I'll probably have to shift into 4th...

Antonio

Hmmm I shifted at 6k, where my redline starts.:dunno

Maybe I'll take it back and shift higher.

Yeah, rev that bitch out some more! Factory redline on my E36 is 6800, yours is probably the same? Redline it in 2nd sometime and check - you won't hurt it, that's why the rev limiter's there.

With the Shark, my redline is now 7k, so that helped my times as well, I'd think.

Ok, last night I was testing this method out just to see if the car felt any quicker and it did. My rev limiter kicks in at 6500 though. I'll have to take it to the track just to see if there's any difference. Thanks.

The redline being moved up will, or would help your time if when you shifted you were out of the powerband in a stock configuration. I know this was the case with my M42 powered E21 (stock redline at 6500). The powerband started at around 3700-3900 RPM. So the shift from 1st to 2nd was OK, but from second to third put me at around 3400-3500 which is too low.

I recently installed my dinan chip good for something like 10 horse at peak and 10 lb/ft at peak. But the redline went up to 7000. So the shift from second to third puts me at almost 4 grand. Right were it should be. Soooo... to sum up. If your stock redline brought you out of the powerband in any shift during your run, then the "chipped redline" will help you.

Of course, I doubt you have any pulling problems with a straight six. It's us 4-banger folks that worry more about powerband.

cheers,
