I am putting this into an E39 540i and am looking to get some respectable bass for about $500-600 for sub and amp.

Prospective Amps:
Elemental Designs Nine.2x
Soundstream TRA800.2
Soundstream PCA100D
Infinity Reference 611A
Infinity Reference 1211A

Prospective Subs (all 12"):
Alpine SWR-1242D
Adire Audio Brahma MKIV (2 ohm or 4 ohm VC's?)
Infinity Reference 1252
Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1
Elemental Designs 13Kv.2

.... any other suggestions?

I'm leaning towards the 1211A or Nine.2x, but still pretty wide open in terms of a well-matching subwoofer. Because of size constraints I am just running one sub in a sealed box.

i vote for the 1211A with an Infinitiy Reference 1250W.
i like to keep all my stuff the same brand, this will keep u well under budget and sound great

Cool - I've added it to my options - thanks! Ebay is probably my friend for best prices for those? You mean the infinity reference 1252W right?

Looking at the specs for that sub, says it's 4 ohm dvc with 300 watt rms and 1200 watt peak. If I were to pair it with the 1211A, what would be the best way to wire it? Also for the specs of the 1252w, wouldn't the 611a be a better match?

Ok - I think I've decided. Gonna get an Infinity 611a and an Infinity Reference 1252w - they seem pretty well matched and bridged at 2 ohms, the 611a will output just under 700 watts RMS.

yeah I've run infinity kappas before in my old saab and really liked their clarity - so I think I'll be happy with it. I just need to read up on how to set gains correctly - because I blew out my last sub because I had it set to hot.

Not to hot on ED stuff as of late..

yeah - that's what I'd gathered from posts on car audio forums - seems like they're still decent, but bang for the buck wise there's definitely some better deals.

is that right? :confused the 611a puts out that much power? if that's so, for $200 from crutchfield is a steal..

I got the Alpine Type R 12" and I'm digging it, so thats my suggestion. Relatively cheap too on ebay.

456 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (657 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)

I should have checked there actually - because I paid $190 shipped for it on ebay, and I would have paid $199 easy (free shipping with crutchfield over $129) for the piece of mind that I'm buying it from a reputable dealer.

Flea-bay. You've got sponsors here, try them yet? I'm sure they can get a setup for you.

Personally, I'd stay away from flea-bay as much as possible no matter the circumstance. If you're already spending that much don't throw that money away to flea-bay. I can understand when you have no more than $200 to spend on a sound system and want flea-bay. Even then you could also be throwing that away after something flops on you. Some people like it some don't, why take the chance?

I actually already ordered an Infinity 611a and one Infinity Reference 1252w from there - got both for $260 shipped. Wondering what you guys think of the combo.

what kind of amp are you running and how did you wire it?

JL 500.1, though I've read some people pushing some more power to it for better sound. Simple direct wire up for my installer (too lazy myself).

do you have DSP in your 540?

do you have DSP in your 540?

Yeah unfortunately - so I don't have a way of tapping a direct signal from the head unit AFAIK, it would have to be filtered through the amplifier.

58 out of 60 of my ebay purchases have turned out perfect. the significant amount of money I have saved dwarfs the problems and little money lost. I buy EVERYTHING brand new at half price shipped. ebay is a great place if you know how to use it.

I always wondered why everyone has had no problems with their purchases from there. Your example sets the standard, for sure.

yeah out of about 55 ebay sales and purchases, only a couple have ended up being nightmares.

Ebay works really good, aslong as u pay attention to the seller's feedback. Ive only had one snafu, and it wasnt all that bad. I have even bought a car, as well as sold one on ebay.

Check if u have a ski pass in the back seat on that carrr. If u don't u mite wanna rethink on wat kinda system u have.. cause e39 tend to have sealed trunks wont allow bass through. imm gonna have a really good writeup soon on how to get decent bass with an e39 pretty soon

Glad you could clear things up a second time, just wanted to make my point there as you did with yours.
