View Full Version : Totaled!
avs2006 03-18-2007, 11:51 PM So, driving to school about a week and a half ago, I get t-boned by a Passat. Fun. I found out on Thursday that the insurance company has decided that it would be better to total my car than fix it.
So... anybody else ever had to deal with Allstate totalling a car in NJ? Any idea on how long to wait for me to get my money?
Also, the awesome Dover Twp cop decided to give me a ticket for "Failure to stop" Two points, fine, and a court date. I have a witness who can testify that I was stopped at that stop sign for about 2-3 minutes. I have learned that it is generally possible to talk to the prosecutor to get the points dropped, and pay a slightly higher fine. Anybody know any info that might help me here?
Sorry if any of these questions are stupid, but I'm only 17, and this is my first ticket and accident. I loved my car... now I have to try and find another Bimmer :(
Thanks in advance.
sogood 03-18-2007, 11:52 PM dover? where are you from? what dover?
avs2006 03-18-2007, 11:54 PM Oh, crap. I forgot they changed the name to Toms River Twp... stupid town.
I'm down in Manahawkin, but go to school in TR
sogood 03-18-2007, 11:57 PM oh beucase theres a dover by me but im way up north, sucks about your car, when i totaled my m over the summer it took about 3 weeks for me to get my money
avs2006 03-19-2007, 12:00 AM Ugh, I really don't want to wait that long... We'll see what happens.
Also, I heard that there's a chance I could get my license suspended. But I know of a bunch of people who got tickets/accidents while still on provisional. Any truth to that chance?
Sorry to hear that, best of luck with everything, but what were you doing sitting at a stop sign for 3 minutes?
AndrewH 03-19-2007, 12:39 PM Damn, that sucks. My friend had a similar incident where he was ticketed even after his car was totaled and it wasn't even his fault. btw, I'm in Bricktown.

Thanks... I was waiting for traffic to clear. It's not a 4 way stop, only 2 way
BavariaMotorist 03-19-2007, 05:46 PM That's weird...
You were waiting for traffic to clear, so where did the guy come from? How did he t-bone you unless he was coming from a lane that intersected w/ your car?
Was he just turning out of a lot or something?

Well, it's a four way intersection, but there's only a stop sign going the way I was, and the way coming head on at me. I went to go, thinking I had enough time, and she (I also think she was speeding to make the light) t-boned me. She hit me when I was 3/4 of the way across, as evidenced by the areas of damage to my car, and the fact that I was spun around 180 degrees. She also made no attempt to avoid it via hard braking (there were no skid marks on the street), swerving, hitting her horn when I first started to go, etc. so we think she may have been on her cell phone, or distracted otherwise. We'll see what happens in court
Anybody know anything about the suspension of license?
BavariaMotorist 03-19-2007, 08:12 PM Do you have a full license?
avs2006 03-19-2007, 08:13 PM Nope, provisional
