Hey guys, haven't posted in awhile but quick question. I got nabbed about 200 miles south of ATL on 75 (laser from a bridge my V1 informed me, obviously too late) at 95 in a 70. The cop only cared about the ticket and didn't even ask for registration or insurance...others were pulled over nearby; obviously a speed trap.

Is there any way to ask for a lesser fine (its currently well over $500) without going back to this small town?

Secondly, I have a PA license so my insurance won't hear about it(PA doesn't reciprocate), however if I move to another state and get new insurance will this ticket still be on my driving record??

Thanks in advance!

Well, first off, how old are you? If you're under 21 and doing more than 24 over the limit and get convicted of it, your licence will automatically be suspended.

That is a Georgia law...he has a PA license...it doesn't apply to him.

I'm over 21...I'm just worried that when I switch insurance policies by virtue of transferring my residence to another state that they will find out?? Or is it only that one insurance company will pass the file on someone onto the next company?? It just doesnt seem economically sensible to keep a permanent nationwide database of non-criminal traffic offenses... your thoughts?

Thanks

Hmm im not sure about that but i do know
GA is the only one with the 24over BS law. (had my liscence suspended because of it when i was 16) SC doesnt have that law.
And I have nationwide insurance and they have yet to notice any one of my 10 tickets :D!

hmm now that i think about it, if you keep the same policy but change states its not likely your insurance company will check your records AFAIK but if you get a hole new policy then youre defenitly screwed.

Guess I'm wrong. I always thought that what you do in other states could effect your licence in your home state.

When we switched insurance companies, my new insurance already knew about my old tickets. That's due to the fact that my tickets were on record with the DMV. Now, that's also the DMV in Georgia. I don't know if an insurance company in other states would look for traffic violations that are on record with the DMVs in other states. You might want to try calling an attorney to take care of the ticket. I hired an attorney for the ticket I got in a south GA hicktown. I didn't have to go to court and he only charged me a little over $500.

wasn't there a thread a few months ago about the government making a national registry for driving offences? maybe I'm making that up...

nope, there is a national registry. however, which states participate in this is beyond me. im sure it would be easily found by doing a quick search on this intranet thing.

to the op,
your best bet is for 3 years keep your current pa drivers license. if you switch to a state that uses the registry the points will transfer im sure. as far as the lower $$ for the ticket goes i would talk to a traffic laywer in ga. problem is youll have to pay them to get your fine and points down. so, do you want little trouble or do you want to be cheap?? unfortunately, its one or the other.

It does. But what happens to your actual license (e.g. suspension, etc.) is based entirely on the law of the state in which you are licensed.
