OK, so I've lurked and looked on here for some help with my project. I can't seem to get a straight answer. The M50 motor from a 93 325is will take the cams from a 95 M3 with no problem, right? Just swap the cams and whatever other things you want in the process (timing chain, tensioners, guides, etc) and it's all good...right? Gives something like 20HP gain over the stock setup? Will this work with my Dinan chip or do I need to go out and buy another chip? What else do I need to do to make this happen? Thanks, guys!

depends on what your dinan chip was configured for. if it's not made to take advantage of the S50 cams, it probably won't run optimally. i had a Turner chip that was made specifically for an M50 with S50 cams.

The chip I can work out later. I guess the cam issue is what I'm troubled with right now. Should I go ahead and get the cams from the 95 M3 or rock with something else?

If yours is(and I believe it is) an M50tu aka vanos it is a direct swap over, if it is an M50 non vanos you can move the intake over to exhaust and use an S50 intake or get a Schrick 272 and have S50 cams.

Stupid question: why swap it out with something else? I'ed go to a junk yard and just get anonther stock one.

Well, I'm told that swappin cams with ones that have a longer/higher duration will increase performance. If you let more air/fuel mix in, you get more power out...you also get more exhaust which is why you need to swap the exhaust as well. A CAI will likely help in providing more air into the engine while a cat-back will help the exhaust flow more freely (in theory).

Ummmm...gettin' ready to do this swap and I'm not sure how to tell which cam is which. I assume, as you face the car, the right side is intake and left is exhaust, correct?

I would do some more research before doing this if you can't even figure this out. I would look on pelicanparts.com under their technical articles they have a full write up. Or pm the user hellrot325 and he can send instructions and rent you the special tools for $25 dollars. I would highly recommend sending a pm to hellrot325 to see what you are getting into.
