Last week was quite sunny in the Netherlands.
The ragtop needed its yearly technical check (dutch law)
2 new front tyres (horribly expensive because of the M3 rims)
2 rubbers in front suspension replaced and CO% fixed. (I was polluting the environment)
Now it is sunday and we have hailstorms and strong winds
I can not wait for the long topless summer to arrive. (hardtop will move to the attic)

There's no Dutch law that says the ragtop needs an annual check.
I'm sure you mean APK, which is recommanded by law, but this has nothing to do with a ragtop and is mandatory for all cars older than 3 years.
Known as MOT in the UK.
Not sure about the states.
M3 wheels are 17" and nothing special that tyres are more expensive, although all good quality tyres in 17/18 and higher equal top money.

I think he was referring to his (entire) convertible automobile as "the ragtop". :)

US inspections vary by state.
Upon purchase, for your initial registration in the state of Maryland, you must have a state inspection done by a registered inspection station, usually a local gas (petrol) station can do it. About $60USD, and includes checking brake pad thickness, all lights working..the basics. They could care less about convertible tops.
In Virginia (across the river), same thing. But also an annual inspection including the same things. Other states vary, but none of them care about the convertible top.
Oh..most states also require a bi yearly emissions inspection. About $60 or so

Doesn't matter, as that makes it sound like cars with a ragtop need an annual check.
While it is so for all cars :)

I did a NJ Inspection about a month ago, and they did not check the top.

Hello all out there,
With ragtop I meant the entire car. And yes, it was the annual dutch APK it has passed.
Anyway, sorry for the confusion it caused. But I still am ready for the long hot summer that WIL COME!!

CA only requires smog. The only time you need a safety inspection is if you are registering something that was removed from the system due to accident or age.
It is topless weather here in NorCal.
