Long time reader, first time post-er!

I took my car into the dealership "New country BMW" in Hartford,CT for an oil change. Litterally, ONCE I backed into a parking spot the brake pad sensor showed on the dash.

Service guy told me I needed the whole brake package (pads, rotors, sensor). bout $500

I know on some other threads you suggest staying with the Original parts. Is there a way I can find the part numbers I need to buy these parts and do it myself?

Also, is the DIY that difficult? Are there any GOOD step by steps that you've seen?

Another topic... Hear squeaking (like a rusty spring sound) coming from my rear left wheel. Asked the tech to look at it while getting the oil changed and they told me nothing was worn or bent... Wondering what this noise could be?

If I press down on the left side of the trunk I don't hear it. Only when driving and when I lift on the left rear wheel well...

And thoughts? car has 62,000 miles on it.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hit up the GB section or contact Bimmerzone. They usually have GB's for brake for OEM replacement type stuff. Visit Bimmerdiy.com and look for a DIY for your application. I've replaced my rotors/pads myself, and it's very easy. Only thing I would suggest is have a nice sized mallot because the rotor will be stuck on pretty good. As far as the squeaking... I'm clueless. Good luck.

Give me a call at (203) 673-4252. I have a friend that works right on that dealership. He is a salesman on the Mini dealer but knows a technician right there that can do the job for you (guy does side work on his garage). Very nice person and if you tell him that you contacted me you'll have the same dealer quality work without the delaer's price.

The squeaking could be a bad strut mount...these cars love strut mounts. Could be a lot of things but they do love springs, strut mounts, and sway bar links
