Hey guys.Well i been drivin this nice 318i for about 3 months and that little 4 banger is pretty sluggish and that auto trans really does slug it down alot more. But its fun in 3rd in manual lol.Anyhow im tired of the 318i motor and i was wondering what engines i can stuff in her for under $4k.Id like to have it be a good street car and track car.Just got the windows tinted today and man it looks ace :).Also only paid $3k for it and i always get attention with her looks awsome would pass for $11k in looks alone lol.

Anyway its got only 3 rust spots also and is extremely clean.I just need more power and its a daily driver also. She only has 100k on her all orignal and includeing the engine.

So if you guys got any good cheap engine swaps let me here em.I sorta wanna go with a 325i engine but i know the 325i's really don't have all that much aftermarket support such as the bigger motors like the 525i's.

Ill post some pics when i get a camera :).Black on black bmw 318i :D.I use it for pizza devlevery and i just wanna have a tad bit more power is all.

Peace :)

And glad to join this awsome forum.

The best bang for your buck is to supercharge it. Other than that 4k is not gonna get you very far.

Yeah i was thinkin that also. But i wasn't sure if the drivetrain can withstand the increase.Cause they claim it makes rougly a 200hp difference so im not 100% that the car can with stand that.

so roughly 300hp from a 4 clyinder heh. That'd be a good sleeper lol.

I can get the supercharge for under $4k new so i might just go with that i was just wondering on the swap ideas though.

Thanks :).

No it will boost your HP to a total of ~200, not increase it 200.

unless you have super super low miles, 3 grand for your 92 318 is not that great of a price. for less than 4k, you can do several swaps, but doing them the right way is a different story.

your diff is going to be enough to hold 200 hp no problem, for how long who knows probably a while depending on how much it has been serviced. the driveshaft is fine. the automatic transmission will hold a decent amount, but not a whole lot. to feel the upgrades you put in, you're going to need a 5 speed. unless you do some serious work to the m42 or whatever is in your car, getting 200 hp should be farely easy whatever you do but its still not a whole lot of power anyway you shove it. depends on what you want out the whole deal and how much money you got

Edit: I feel like I just pissed on your parade. Sorry dude haha. Here, this is for you. :boobies

Heh its cool. But what i was orignally gonna do was pick up a used 325i engine with trans. And w/e elese i gotta get to stuff it into the 318i i know they both have the same chassis and everything else.Plus you can pick up a used 325i engine running off ebay for under $3k.This way ill be paying for 4 banger insurance with a stright six :D.This was my orignal idea and i beleve i know enough ppl to pull it off for under $3k.

Just depends on what i need to get it done the cheapest way possible. Also please list the things i would need inorder to get a 325i engine in her. This car is just amazing in shape and its a awsome canidate for a swap.Been baby'd all her life pratically. And the service record is awsome.

Plus i really can't find a good running 325i for under $4k.Even if i did id get raped on the insurance in the long run.

Thanks for the ideas. But i know that little 4 banger even supercharged will still be fairly slow :(.So ill just do the 325i swap long as i can get enough info on how to pull it off.
