I'm the second owner of the car. I live in Ocean County New Jersey. I bought it two years ago from a small old asian woman who took the car to the dealer for any problems and kept service records up to 185,000 miles (when I bought it.) I'm selling it because I really can't afford to drive a BMW right now. I'm 20 and school is getting expensive. Plus I owe my parents $2000.
The engine runs well, especially considering it's high miles. There are no engine mods, and I have had no engine problems with it in two years. The only work I have done on it is minor. It has Chrome angel eyes and clear corners. I still have the original head lights though. It also has a jensen head unit. (I still have the original head unit as well.) I replaced the alternator last year and replaced the MAF last October.
The most major work I did was changing front end body panels. I put on new fenders and a new nose. This was because of the rust issue that plagues many early build e36. I did my own preliminary paint work on these parts. They still need to be sanded and need another coat of paint and 2 or 3 coats of clear coat.
The sunroof tilts but will not slide. This is due to a broken lifter. It's inexpensive and really not that difficult to replace if you know what you're doing. The rear passenger window doesn't go down because of a broken plastic piece the attaches the arm to the window. (also inexpensive) The AC compressor is broken (the most expensive issue) and I suspect that the heater core is leaking. (inexpensive, but a pain to fix.) The only other problem is that it needs a new O2 sensor.
Beyond the issues outlined above, there are only regular wear items that will soon need replacing. i.e. front brake pads, rear shock mounts, a new battery.
The most likely future for the car is parts or a project car, which breaks my heart, but it must be done.

I know man, buying an auto was the worst mistake I've ever made. A do it yourself swap would be around $1200. I'm in Bayville. PM me if you're interested and i'll send you my phone number and address.

I know man. It was dumbest mistake I made when I bought the car. I was so excited to get it and figured I'd spend the 1,200 for the swap. Things turned out different. But if you really want the 5 speed and are willing to do a swap to get it, I'm sure we can work out a price on the car that will fit your budget and leave enough to do the swap.
