Couple weeks ago I bough a nice e30 and I'm researching doing an engine swap to M50, M52 or even S5x.

Based on the info I'm seeing, people that get OBDII engines convert them to OBDI. It seems like it is a must when you do this kind of swap to E30.

Any of you guys here who have done this kind of swap?
Can somebody explain to me if this is a must and why or OBDII engine can go in as ODBII?

e30's dont utilize EWS. 96+ (i think) cars use it. Has to be converted in order to start the car. You'll get more power out of an OBDII car that has been converted to OBDI. Its really not too bad of a swap.
You have to alter the brake booster, tear out the sound deadening crap in the tranny tunnel, use a smaller oil pan, and some other stuff thats minor. Bring as much e36 engine bay stuff as you can. Its been done so many times that you can buy plug and play kits for the wiring harness plugs. We sell one at Treehouse Racing for instance. Plug and play.

Any idea what's involved or how hard the OBDII to OBDI conversion is?
