I am new to the forum and wanted a little M3 advice

1. I heard that I should stay away from any M3's earlier than '03 due to crank bearing issues...is there truth to this?

2. I am looking at a 2005 smg 1 owner with 41k miles - competition package and all options incl nav for $37.5 k Does this sound like a good deal?

Thanks for any and all advice

from what I hear the rod bearing issue can be fixed by taking it in for the recall. It's free I believe (I don't own the car...yet, haha) and it pretty much eliminates that problem.

1. Yes, that's true - but provided it was corrected in the recall, no problem. And the engine will be warrantied for 6 years from the recall work - but I am not sure if that transfers across owners, unlike the standard warranty.

2. Ummm... I think it's okay, not super, but ok. My 04 smg vert, loaded, with 16k miles was $40k.

thanks paul - do you think the competition package adds much value?

1. Don't worry about it, as long as the recall is taken care of.

2. Although the mileage is a little bit high, I'd love to have a late model ZCP M3. It depends on if you mind that much mileage.

Ah, I missed comp package - maybe? I know pretty much nada about ZCP.
