View Full Version : getrag 265/6 vs 260/6; compatability
norcale28 03-14-2007, 03:51 PM as i've mentioned in previous postings, the trans from my '87 535is is down. i just located a trans from an '85 735i. according to my findings the 735i came with a 265/6 and mine has a 260/6. any chance these are compatable? or perhaps they both have the same trannys.
comments, please.
xatlas0 03-14-2007, 08:16 PM Transmissions are slightly different lengths, if I recall right. May need to have your driveshaft cut or extended. They will both bolt right up to the M30, though.

Not off the top of my head, no. However, on the realoem ETK, for the E28 cars, they show the driveshaft length for various years. If you check the length of an '85 car compared to, say, an '87 car (those use the 265 and the 260, respectively) that should give you an idea of the driveshaft difference, which means the transmission length difference.
Dark Helmet 03-15-2007, 12:18 PM the transmissions you are comparing should be identical... that's a swap.

based on the info in the link, as long as the donor vehicle was produced after 9/85, i should be in good shape. that is if i can reach the guy!

If it was produced after, it isn't using a 265, unless it is an E30 M3.

so are you saying after 9/85 would have had the 260?
