I am the proud owner of a 87 535i with 244,000 miles. The car is excellent to mint condition. I am the 3rd owner my brother was the previous owner since 1994. All records (from day one)show oil changes at 3,000 mi. consistently and serious service since new....but I cannot find (records)where this car has (ever) had a compression check...at all. Where could I expect to see all cylinders after excellent service since new in 87.
I would like to use this as a reference when I take my car in for a compression check and major tune up. I have followed the pattern of 3,000 mile oil changes since new. I have owned since 2001 and I can expect to see about a .5 Qt.(or less) usage upon changes (3,000miles).
Your expert assessment would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your generosity.

I dunno exactly where it should be on a 535, as ive never done a compression test to one, but i would be happy with anything around 170 or higher. And if each cylinder is a close number with the others, its all good.

So what engine are you basing your 170 lb on if you have never done one on a 3.5 litre.

To expect 170 that would be great but new is only 155
