View Full Version : Next Arizona Meet!
MikeBMW 01-24-2003, 03:50 PM Next Arizona meet? I'm assuming Phoenix for this meet since the Phoenix group came down to Tucson.
Phoenix guys and girls, any suggestions?
I should be getting my car back today and putting the new AA intake on, it's been sitting in my livingroom for the past three days... :bawl The intake has been sitting in my livingroom that is, not the car... just thought I'd clarify
ArcticSilverM3 01-24-2003, 05:25 PM Mike - Glad your getting your car back. Maybe mine will be ready by the end of the month.
I was thinking that we could do a drive up north. Something through Jerome. The basic directions are: Take I-17 North to the 260, then get on the 89A, and back down through Prescott Valley to the 69.
Let me know what you guys think...drive should take around 4 hours, and should have some nice twisties + long straight-a-ways.
Joose 01-24-2003, 05:44 PM what would be cool is having a bbq somewhere up north(prescott area?). bring steaks/burgers and whatnot and grill them there on some campgrounds then make the trudge back.
Antonio 01-24-2003, 06:08 PM Perfect Idea. I know there are plenty of BBQ spots we could find. I say we do that the next time. Also, let's find an area where not many cops travel:)

Yeah BBQ! :drummer
So what are we thinking in terms of dates?
Antonio 01-24-2003, 07:54 PM That's exactly what I am wondering. Let's plan ahead.
Oh yeah, no other cars aside from BMWs on this one. If others want to come along they can ride in one of our, well your cars:)
ImageDynamicsM3 01-24-2003, 08:07 PM Why not just meet up in phoenix for a BBQ. And we could all chill and talk instead of driving all day. It was kinda a long night for the phoenix people to drive all the way back from bisbee. Just a thought?
84_318i 01-24-2003, 08:13 PM http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=69907
Antonio 01-24-2003, 08:14 PM If you go to www.mapquest.com and check out the route he has mapped out it's not nearly as far as we went last weekend. This means that the Tucson guys could come up and not have to worry about being overwhelmed.
I definitely want to do a drive. I swear to god, im going to make the meet this time, even if I have to take my chevro-legs.
Looz3r 01-24-2003, 09:15 PM yeah bbq up north sounds good to me
AzN_M5 01-24-2003, 09:26 PM Well, lets plan this next meet for February sometime. If you look at the calendar you can take your pick for weekend choice. The only weekend that doesn't work for me is the 15th to the 16th. I'm not saying schedule this meet around me, I just won't be able to make a meet on those dates. So I assume we'll do this on a Sunday as usual. Now the question is which weekend and where are we going? Now I love to chat and "chill" but the phoenix guys do that enough at the Pavillions. Meet time, means it's time to drive. The M5 is back and ready to kick a$$! :redspot This time when we go all you M3's are going to need :help ! MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH:evil2 So I am all for a drive somewhere, anywhere really, just as long as it has some twisties and definitely some straight aways!!!
///Misanthrope 01-24-2003, 10:08 PM Chris - I'll race your M5 for slips.
(but I get to use my 0.75 instead of my 2.8)
:devillook

'cept for Gmat.
:devillook :devillook :devillook :devillook
AzN_M5 01-24-2003, 10:47 PM True, but I was making my judgements on M3 owners who actually exist. So far we have yet to actually see the person, the man, the legend, that is GMAT! :biglaughb
hahaha, i've seen the legend......i helped jump his car once
as for the meet any weekend except the 1st and 2nd is good for me. i say we either go for the 9th or 23rd (m5 has gotta come :buttrock ). up north sounds awesome and BBQ even better!
Looz3r 01-25-2003, 12:58 AM i was told that go through presscott valley first, then up to jerom. Supposed to be less traffic that way, instead of getting stuck behind a motorhome out of jerome

You still haven't witnessed CashmoneyM3 in action yet.. with his recent addition of an AA trackpipe.. nice and illegal in AZ.. :devillook heheh.. and as far as I know.. he's got a AA turbo sitting around somewhere too.. get that thing on your car already!!
PS: MIKE! I need a ride! I've been carless for a whole week... still carless.. my car is in pieces at the shop! I've been crashing at my fraternity house all week.. I stink.. i'm grumpy.. and I can't get to my girl... :( .. oh yea.. thanks for driving me around Lauren.. i may need one last one monday.. :D

Shane - I talked to Rich at Dearing Automotive, he told me the whole story! If you need any rides let me know.
Dearing Auto. replaced my fan clutch, spark plugs, glued down the TMS chip, changed my belts, idle hose, and intake manifold connector, afterall was said and done I walked away 670 bucks lighter :bawl
Oh well, at least the car is back. Oh they also put gas and in my car and gave me a ticket for a free car wash. Active Autowerkes intake goes on tomorrow. :D
Looz3r 01-25-2003, 02:01 AM I wont have my car on the first weekend on febuary, because my car is being repainted. I drop it off JAN 27th and it takes a week and a half. I will roll with someone else if the trip is planed that weekend.
And by the way, i really enjoyed the last trip.
Emmasis 01-25-2003, 02:08 AM Yeah, definately go through Prescott valley first
Long straight roads and then,then,then...........
Switchbacks & Twisties all throughout the Mingus
Mountian range:buttrock
Where is the final destination? Jerome??
AzN_M5 01-25-2003, 02:14 AM Well I guess we've got our drive plans figured out, in terms of where we want to go. So for a date I vote for the 9th of February. Does this work for everyone? This isn't for sure I'm just throwing down a date seeing if it will work.
Hopefully, the meets will begin to be monthly if we can stay organized :redspot .
Looz3r 01-25-2003, 02:15 AM Im good througgout the month any date is good for me
LLuke 01-25-2003, 02:53 AM Jerome is kinda up there. Idealy we could find something within 30 minutes of the greater PHX area. Personally I think we should be driving half the time and chilling for the rest. I would have liked more time to check out the Tuscan DTMers cars.
Antonio 01-25-2003, 03:06 AM Jerome isn't far at all. Bisbee and driving by Douglass are far! I think I speak for most when I say that I would rather spend time driving the hell out of my car. I don't know about the rest of you but I have my friends and women for conversation so when I come to a meet all I want to do is drive. Maybe if some of the rest of you that were at the back of the pack got brave and came up front with the crazy guys*me, lauren, matt, adam* you would enjoy the driving part more. ;)
*edit: I would also like to add, on behalf of the majority, that this meet will stricly be for BMWs. Any other fans of BMWs can come along, they will just have to ride in one of our cars.
Back to sleep I go.....:orangesle
AzN_M5 01-25-2003, 03:08 AM I agree! We don't own "Ultimate Driving Machine's" just because they're fun to sit and sing campfire songs around. No, Pavillions time is chill and talk shop time. Meet time is definitely DRIVING TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!:evil2 :b_blue: :redspot
MikeBMW 01-25-2003, 03:11 AM So no BBQ? :drummer
By the way, what is everyone referring to this group nowadays? Still Arizona DTM or DTM Arizona? When I tell new people about the meets I don't know what to refer to it as, since we're not on DTM anymore. Just curious? :boink
trboblu74tii 01-25-2003, 12:44 PM I'm down, i'd love too drive up north and see some trees, and winddiee roads, and switch backs!!!!
Doug
ArcticSilverM3 01-25-2003, 03:30 PM Yeah, Jerome isn't that far at all. I'm down with switching up the drive to go through Prescott Valley first. So it will be: Go north on I-17 to the 69 (exit at Cordes Junction). Then get on the 89A back around to the 260 an then back south on the I-17. The first weekend of February works for me.
Antonio 01-25-2003, 04:07 PM BBQ is still on:drummer
I know of a place we can stop at to pick up BBQ essentials. It's close to the I-17 and this way we won't have to worry about it going bad. I'm sure we'll be able to find a place to cook once we get up there. I like the route that Pat has picked out. I think we should stick to that.
AzN_M5 01-26-2003, 05:19 AM Ok boys and girls, the meet has changed and for the better I might add. The meet will now be on February 8, 2003. That is a Saturday for those of you who can't subtract. Orientblue323i will post the destination for the drive later on. As far as I know though, it has something to do with Payson. After we get up there we can have lunch and then come back down and hang out at the Pavillions for a couple of hours. And from there to "Zanzibar" a sweet ass bar/restaurant in old town scottsdale. Basically, they have been generous enough to let us use their 52 space private parking lot, yes you heard that right, 52 spaces and it's private.
There will be more details to come, but here is the general idea of the meet:
Meet at (undecided starting location), then to our planned route, then comes lunch, then back down to Phoenix, then to the Pavillions, and finally if some people still haven't had enough, on to "Zanzibar" for beer (for those "older" people), finger foods, and other good things.
And for those who can't follow that here's an easier one:
1. Meeting place
2. Planned route
3. Lunch
4. Back to Phoenix
5. Pavillions hang out
6. "Zanzibar"
Any questions?
sounds like an awesome day. is BBQ lunch still gonna be able to fit in all that? :D
Looz3r 01-26-2003, 03:05 PM So.. am i allowed to take my car, or will some people get there panties all in a bunch?
AzN_M5 01-26-2003, 04:35 PM After taking the "Zanzibar" poll it was evident that this next meet in February will be strictly Bimmers only. Nothing against other cars, but this meet is going to be "Kraut Rockets" only. :redspot :evil2
arrogantBMWdriver 01-26-2003, 04:48 PM Well, if you guys are planning on driving around prescott, you can stop by NAU and pay me a visit:stickoutt (just messin around, I know it's too far away) But make some videos!!!
There are no BF.com or DTMers here. I'm all alone :(
Tom
GTABurnout 01-27-2003, 12:40 AM Who am I to complain but Feb 8 is mid-day madness at SIR. So I will be there But is it possable to make it on say a sunday again? Just want to go and thought I would throw out some options for you guys. Had fun on the last meet so Hope I can make the next.
84_318i 01-27-2003, 12:57 AM I wanna go.. But my POS won't keep up.. :(
It'd prob shake apart if i tried to keep up with Antonio.. :embarrasm
Antonio 01-27-2003, 01:38 AM I think we all got the story clear as far as the meet goes. I think Chris was going to be in charge of setting up the actual time and meeting place. Todd should chime in the next time he's on as well, for details.
So far we definitely have the date set for the Saturday, in the morning sometime. It should be pretty similiar to the last meet only there will be a shorter drive and nothing except BMWs on this one. Again, if there are any BMW fans they could possibly hitch a ride with one of us.
84_318: if your car won't make it you can ride in mine.

hahaha, don't worry too much about it, i was able to 'keep up' at the last meet, altho it was mostly due to traffic and not everyone cruises at 140mph the whole time.
plus it would be cool to run ur e30 m10 vs. e21 m10. the e30 has a slight weight advantage and an extra 3 lbs-ft of torque.
Misterdvs 01-27-2003, 02:26 AM Hello All:D I'm back in town!! I hope this is a recent thread:dunno I'm looking forward to the next meet!!:buttrock
Alohaz,
SHAUN
Marvelphx 01-27-2003, 03:37 PM I'm good with the 8th (oh yeah, my idea... LOL)...
I figure we can meet out at the McDonald's in Fountain Hills or something, so east/west/tucson valley guys can meet in the middle.
Drive up the Beeline to Payson, eat at a nice cafe (or bring the BBQ stuff and hit a campground, not a bad idea), relax, jump in the rides, cruise (ok, haul ass) back down the mountain, hit the Pavilions to burp and cuss out the imports, then off to Zanzibar for anyone still possessing energy to keep going...
Misterdvs 01-27-2003, 04:51 PM Game on!! I'll be there:buttrock
Looz3r 01-27-2003, 07:28 PM Yo rgrmorris can i roll with you since i apparently have the wrong 3 letters on my car?
AzN_M5 01-27-2003, 08:46 PM Oh and GMAT suggested possibly inserting something in between the returning drive and Pavillions. Since we will be rolling through the desert and such our cars should be somewhat filthy. So a possibility is that we could stop somewhere i.e. a car wash or GMAT suggested his house, and wash up. Obviously this depends on what time we get back from Payson, however I assume that a little down time for cleaning and such would be nice, almost a way to do a little bit of relaxing before the Pavillions. Since this will probably feel like one of the longest meets we've had to date. And you know what? How COOL is that?!!!
Finally, we can all roll together to the Pavillions, now that rocks! :buttrock
:redspot :b_blue: :alright  :biglaughb
Antonio 01-27-2003, 09:00 PM That was a good idea on his part. If that would work out it would be perfect. We can all roll up together and get some good spots rather than showing up one at a time and scrounging like we usually do. Mongolian BBQ for sure this time.;)
Misterdvs 01-28-2003, 02:13 AM Ok, so I lied, I can't go:( That is the last day of my 3 week class:bawl

rgrmorris 01-28-2003, 03:36 AM Yo rgrmorris can i roll with you since i apparently have the wrong 3 letters on my car?
Wrong three letters is right. :D
I guess I will allow you to occupy my passenger seat, it needs to be warmed every once in awhile to keep the leather soft.
Looz3r 01-28-2003, 03:46 AM im glad im there to be a counter balance for your car
ArcticSilverM3 01-28-2003, 01:56 PM Well, I just dropped by and checked out the car, and it's taking them forever! So, my car might not be ready by the 8th. It would be great if I could hop a ride with someone.
I figure we can meet out at the McDonald's in Fountain Hills or something, so east/west/tucson valley guys can meet in the middle.
Yeah, thats a good idea. Is that McDonalds the one way out on Shea? Like right next to the Beeline?
AzN_M5 01-28-2003, 06:12 PM That sucks about your car Pat. I really hope it is ready by the 8th. Otherwise you're always welcome to hop a ride with me. I can always use a good camera man :awink: . :b_blue:
Hey AzN, you see the add for the e39 bbs lm wheels in the for sale forum?? Sweet!
Jethro 01-29-2003, 03:48 AM Hello Gentlemen,
New to this forum, spent a couple years on the ti Yahoo list. Recently moved to Anthem from SD and don't know alot of AZ Bimmerphiles yet. Will try to synch up with this next meet and try to keep up.
Spent superbowl morning going through Wickenburg and the back way up 89 to Prescott. There is a newly paved 15 mile stretch that is incredible. I highly suggest this ride as it will provide both long straights for the over 100mph nuts as well as the second gear twisties.
I'll do it again, but prefer weekday mornings... too many tickets!
Is there any autoX action in AZ besides SCCA?
hey welcome jeff, i think ur gonna be the first ti of the group. do u have any pics? ur suspension setup sounds cool.
no one's gotten tickets on the drives yet, just warnings......plus a bunch of us have radar detectors
about autox, i think they do stuff at firebird and phoenix intl but not sure if they're scca or not. there's also autox in tucson and further south in sierra vista (again, not sure if they're scca or not)
ArcticSilverM3 01-29-2003, 01:54 PM Otherwise you're always welcome to hop a ride with me. I can always use a good camera man .
Thanks Chris! I owe you a few rides in the 323! ;)

It likes to shake, so it'd probably rattle apart.. :D
Jethro 01-31-2003, 12:07 PM I'm doing some front end refinishing and adding a lip spoiler today... will post a pic or two when done. What is best method to do so? Right into the post?

Joose 02-03-2003, 02:41 PM uNF i wanted to BBQ... oh well maybe next time.
Antonio 02-03-2003, 02:55 PM We'll get sammwitches. You can roll in mine.

lol, on the post reply page, go down to attach file (it's like an inch above the 'Submit Reply' & 'Preview Reply' buttons).......then just click the browse button and find the file u want to attach.
if u have pics of ur car uploaded on the internet already.....just type the url, highlight it, then click the IMG button (just above where u type ur reply)
Jethro 02-03-2003, 09:43 PM Let's try this...
Jethro 02-03-2003, 09:45 PM Here's another
Jethro 02-03-2003, 09:51 PM Another buttless shot...
