I'm deciding on an AccuSump setup for my IP car. It's a 99 E36 with an OBD1 S52. I have the euro oil filter housing and oil cooler.

I've read every thread I could find regarding AccuSumps and it's given me a good general idea but I still have some specific questions.

1. Is a 2qt unit adequate and worth it or is a 3qt unit the way to go? I'm likely going to have to mount it in the passenger seat area so I'm concerned about space.

2. I'd like to go with the eletric valve. Is 35-40psi unit the one I should use?

3. How should I plumb this into my oil system? I couldn't find any decent pictures of the install for an IP car. I know I can use the VPD oil filter cap as one option. I was also wondering if I could just tap into the return side of my oil cooler line? Any plumbing recommendations?

Thanks all! :D

There are a few plugged ports on the s52 oil filter housing that go into the return gallery from the filter. (where the oil cooler lines are tapped on a s54 oil filter housing) M14 thread if I recall.

edit: it's M16x1.5

You can also get a VPD oil filter lid with the port machined in.

I have an Accusump on my 2002 and would not do it again. I no longer turn it on. Pumps too much oil in the system and causes major blow bye. Best thing to do is oil pan baffles, or do the lightweight dual pickups.

The Accusump is adjustable and is a great backup if you suffer catastrophic oil pressure loss, however an Accusump is only part of the solution. I agree with msgroner, you should first start to think about baffles, crank scrapers and dual pickups. The Accusump would be last on my list...

I agree that an Accusumpt should be used only as part of a complete system. Starting with Oil Pan Baffles, dual pickup pan and pump and a WARNING system to let you know you have a problem.

The warning system evosport has provided for me is 2 fold. First, I have whats called the "Array of Death" which is 3 super bright LED's mounted in my line of sight. The two outside LED's are constand RED when I have no (or low) oil pressure. The middle LED is flashing RED. Second, evosport has provided me with a warning tone generator that is wired into my ear plugs. It's hooked to generate tone when I get a low oil pressure light, or high oil or water temps. I think this audio/visual warning system is a MUST have to save motors. I check my gauges going down the front straight of every lap, but this tone/LED arrangement has helped save a motor.

FYI - SHAMELESS PLUG - I have a LTW Pan and Dual pickup Oil pump for sale - complete $750.

Thanks for the input. I agree the accusump is only one component of the system and NOT the end-all solution to oil starvation issues. I have a baffled oil pan but wanted to add the accusump for added insurance.

PM sent about the oil pan and pick up you have for sale.

That's a deal and your best bet. Good luck!!!

Does it make sense for me to plumb the accusump into the oil cooler return line? A one-way check valve and some AN fittings should do the trick.

Has anyone done it this way?

the hole you can see through in this pic. M3LTWs (I think) run the oil cooler out of that port. On the back side there is provision for a thermostat. VAC also sells a modified e36 oil filter for an oil cooler, that ( I assume ) uses these two ports for the oil cooler feed and return with the thermostat location blocked off with a bung of some kind.
