Looking for either Valentine 1, Bel RX65, or Passport 8500 X50 or 9500. Not interested in a cheap one. Thanks!

I recommend the Passport 8500 X50. Best detector I ever owned. Didn't even have it 6 months and it "paid" for itself.
Gonna do anything about Laser traps??

Mmmpower, I'll consider the X50. Looking at one right now used, but only $350. Refplusten, shotgun?

Hahaha looks like I need a new one now too... Just got mine confiscated while I was in Ontario (plus a nice $170 fine - kick in the nuts) but the O.P.P. Officer felt my pain. He didn't bother with the speeding ticket. Whew. Any got that new 9500?? Probably cruise buy Best Buy today and see what they got in stock...

Frick, that would suck. But they're legal here in Alberta, right? Jay, ya, I'll call you. I have to work till at least 6 every day, so I doubt I'll be able to drop by, unless you're open till 7. Thanks a lot, too! Pretty cool of you.

Does JB's also sell that spray you put on your license plate and it reflects the flash of a red light camera, or radar, etc?

VF2 is good for that. Their website isn't working right now.
Can anyone get that Escort 9500i in Canada yet?

Cool, I always thought radar jammers were just for when a cop points a laser gun at you. US $399 is about 20 times the amount of the sray, though, although it will probably always work. Good investment, though.... Maybe next paycheck. :) Have you ever gotten in trouble by a cop, or do people play around with the light, since it's only attached to the license plate?

EDIT: I won't be getting the VF2, since it's for North American license plates. I'll get the VF3, for european wide license plates, since I'll be going back to Germany this year.

Nope got pulled over a few times (DAMN YOU LASER!!! but that was before my M20 install - still haven't been tested) and the cop was standing behind my car copying down my licence plate and they never noticed. You can even paint it to match your car.

JB

We're open till 9 on thursday and friday. And yeah I also have the photo spray and plastic plates. They are both becoming pretty popular because of the recent news about the red light speeding cameras

I was sick yesterday and today, so I haven't called yet. Sorry. Aren't those plastic License plate covers illegal here?

EDIT: Just found out those plate covers are illegal, and can actually get your car impounded because it's an obstruction of the license plate.

Hey guys how does that spray work, can the cops see that you've sprayed your plates?

Flamewerks
03-12-2007, 04:11 PM
The plates are illegal, so I wouldn't put them on my car (I know, so is speeding). But form everything I have read, the spray works, and you can't see it at all. 99% of the reviews are good. It's only like $30 anyway.

I heard that they can digitally invert the colours and see the plate number with the spray.

Oh and my Escort 9500i should be here anyday now... drool

You had an X50, right? Will you be selling it? I'd be very interested!

MMmmmpower

Yes the plastic covers are illeagal, BUT from the stories iv heard from customers the cops will just take the plate away, and one or two people said they received a $110 ticket. I'v never heard of the car being impounded for it, but I guess if the cop was a total asshole he could do it

Hey flamewerks I have about 8 x50's left, in both blue and red LED lighting

As for the spray it works very good, I'v never heard a customer complaining about it, law related or otherwise.

Hahaha I wish I still had it. The reason I'm getting a new one is because the O.P.P. exchanged my 8500 X50 for a $170 ticket for "operating a radar detection device".

Sorry I missed your thread the first time, did you say the cops took your radar detector? I didn't know they did that in Alberta?

By the way, Jay I'll be seeing you at JB for that spray for my license plate as well! Thanks in advance!

O.P.P. is the ONTARIO Provincial Police and most of them run with the Spectre Radar Detector Detector.
If ya ever want to drive other than a straight line you gotta get outta AB once in a while! ;)

Ya.... now you know our pain.....
I'd given up with detectors here in Ontario,
but now that Beltronics has the STi which is shielded even for Spectre, I think I'll try again.

So they issued a ticket AND confiscated the radar detector? Sorry to hear that!

Yeah that sounds interesting. I hope it works! I "grew up" in Ontario so it was a complete joy to find out that it's completely legal in AB.

Alright, this thing hasn't detected a single radar unit yet. I have counted 15 cops, and 5 of those for sure where sitting in the meridian on the highway, or hiding in the city waiting for someone to zoom by. Not a single beep came off this unit. I'm seriously wondering if this thing isn't defective. I was going down the highway today, passed a cop in the meridian, who was waiting for someone going the direction I'm going in, and the unit makes no sound. WTF? I passed 4 other cop cars like that, never got anything. I passed one in one direction, got nothing, than passed him going the other, and got a laser warning like 200 feet away from him. That was the only time I got a warning. All the other times it did nothing, even though I know the cops were waiting with their radar. :mad Yes, I know it's not gonna detect a cop car that doesn't have their radar on, but it never works!?!

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Valentine One in this whole discussion. I have no personal experience with it, but has anybody else here used it in Ontario effectively?
