I am shopping for another M3, dumping my S2000, anyway I have found several 2001 models priced in the low $20-22k range with mileage from 60-100k miles.
I have had several E36 M3's and wouldn't think twice about an E36 but not sure about the E46.
As long as the rod bearing campaign was done and maintenance checks out I should be good to go with a PPI, right? Should I treat it just as I would an E36M3 purchase or should I do anything special.
Thanks

I recently bought an E46 M3 with 105k miles on it and it needed some routine maintenance but all in all I bought it as I did any other high mileage BMW ( I have owned two E36's > 230K and 100K and 1 E46 325i > 120K). Run a carfax for piece of mind (even though they are not 100% accurate), have a mechanic look it over, and make sure you test drive it thouroughly. If the current owner has service records than that is a bonus. Call BMW NA and make sure that all recalls have been done.

The E46 M3 is a great car, I fall in love all over again everytime I drive it...

Good luck in your search.

PS My car had the rod bearing recall done at 103K miles and as a result has a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty on the work...
