Hey guys-

I am planning out swaping the cams in my 93 325is with some form an M3. I was reading the pelican DIY, but was a bit confused. How does one turn the motor to TDC (top dead center point)? :confused

For TDC you should turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the line between the T and the O (on the pulley)lines up with the line on the front of the engine. At that point the engine will be top dead center and cyl#1 and 6 will be at the top of the cylinders. It would be good if you had the tool to lock the cams in place for reinstallation. The holes on the cams should be facing upwards. Those holes are at the the back of the cams closer to the firewall. You probably shouln't attempt this without the cam locking tool.:nono I just did my head on my '98 M3 last thursday. It was the first time I had ever done one and it came out beautiful. Goodluck.

Thanks Jahcin! How does one turn the crankshaft pulley? Is it w/ a wrench?

I think I used a 21mm socket with a long breaker bar. It will be ALOT easier with the spark plugs out. with the plugs out it turns without effort.

I assume that you plan on removing the fan. I think for the fan you will need a 32mm wrench if i'm not mistaken with a special tool to hold the fan pulley and turn the wrench clockwise to remove the fan while holding the pulley with the special tool to stop it from turning.

I wasn't planning on removing the fan. Is it necessary?

the fan is probably gonna get in the way, that's all it does, don't put it back on. you can use the ford fan removal tool, it's a little loose of a fit but it worked for me.

i am thinking of taking it off and doing the FDM. However, I plan on supercharging later this year. Is FDM compatible w/ FI?

Use a screwdriver to hold the water pump pulley, or replace the bolts by allen heads, it gives you a lot of grip on the pulley with a big screwdriver while you remove the REVERSED THREAD fan
