How much deposit is your dealer requiring on an order? Is it refundable?

My dealer required $1000 down at order. He said technically it was non-refundable, but he had never seen the dealer actually apply that rule. He said the only time they'd probably do it is if you ordered something so custom that it was hard to sell off the lot.

1000 is the most common amount. It's usually refundable but there may be special cases in some states - check withyour dealer.

That said, I put down zero on my 335 Coupe and have an order with my name on it. The car is being built right now.

When I bought my last car (in California) I didn't want the sunroof (it was an option then). At least one dealer would not order it that way because he said he couldn't sell it if I didn't take it. I offered a non-refundable deposit and he said that the non-refundable part wasn't enforceable.

Actually by law car dealerships have to refund all money if the car is not purchased.

The dealer may say it is not refundable but the law says that it must be refunded (at least in CA its like that)

I paid $500 on my deposit when I ordered my car

Manhattan BMW made me put $2500 down, most likely cuz I was getting an unpopular item in NYC (manual tranny) and an unpopular color (Barrique)

My dealler actually said he wanted a $1K deposit because I ordered an E90 with a manual transmission yesterday, and that would make it to hard to sell if I back out.

LOL!

I gave him $500.

Off topic, Zoebs is that Montego blue that you have on your 335?? Maybe it's the lighting but it looks a little darker than Montego.

On topic, my dealer requests 1k down to order. We haven't discussed refunds, but it will definitely be brought up by me.

We require a $500 partial payment on the vehicle, non refundable. We also contract the vehicle to lock in the agreed upon payment to protect both the dealer and the client.
