View Full Version : What's my car worth?

1990 535i. I'm planning on moving back to Germany this year. I bought my car for very cheap, and I doubt I could possibly lose money on it. It only has 2 minor leaks in the engine bay, and some surface rust. I'll fix those things, though, in a couple of weeks. The interior is excellent shape pretty much, but the seats have cracks (not rips, though). I'll do the leatherique treatment. It's got 367,000 km, but it's an M30, and it doesn't burn oil. I checked the oil after 3000km on the oil change, and it's still full. There are 3 minor dings, but I'll get that fixed, too. Just wondering what you guys think it's worth. I don't know if I should leave it stock, and just get it all in perfect condition, or if I should lower it, and get some Mpars, etc. It'll look a million times better, and increase the value by a bit, too, but I'm looking at what will give me the most profit in the end. I'll post some pics tonight.

The only problem with putting stuff into a car you're getting rid of,you never get back what you put into it.If I sell my car today,I'll never get back the money for all the crap that I've put into it.

If you're selling do as little as possible to make it look good. Investing a lot of money in a car with 367k does not make sense.

Ya, I'll do the rust work, since I got everything already anyway for the Porsche project, and do the seats and get them looking good again. I guess that'll be it, other than just keeping it looking as good as possible. It's just so hard not to throw cash at it...:(

I would not invest any money at all in "upgrades" or eye-catchers....as stated above, you'll get no where near the dollar value you spent on the parts. People are lucky to get 50-60% of the retail they paid on parts....at least that's what I found on the Subaru aftermarket parts I sold :(

Okay, here are some pics. Of course the batteries in the camera are freakin' empty like always when you need it, so here are some from last week. Yes, I've washed the car since:) I do 150km a day of highway driving, so it gets dirty like this every 3 days. You can see the front left fender has some rust, and along the bottom. The car's got some surface rust in a couple of places, but the underbody is amazing. The PO garaged it, so it's very good shape. Sucks that I have to keep it outside.

When I move back to Germany, I'll be moving to Fritzlar, in Hessen. That's in Central Western Germany. Here's a couple of pics. http://images.google.ca/images?svnum=10&hl=en&gbv=2&q=fritzlar+http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k164/Flamewerks/11.jpg
