View Full Version : tt stage 1 vs. sti
fryguym3 03-03-2007, 01:15 AM my friend wants me to come out to the strip and race him. my tt stage 1 m3 vs. his sti.
me: 97 m3 tt stage 1 with 3" tbe, uuc stage 2 clutch flywheel
him: 04 sti helix tbe, headers, intake and cobb ap pro tuned.
what do you guys think? i just want to know my odds against him. i know he thinks i have no chance so i dont want to go out there and have him be right.
resisTm3 03-03-2007, 01:23 AM if he knows how to launch .... good luck, you'll be behind off the bat.
nismo skyline 03-03-2007, 01:23 AM u have a chance, especially if u can launch good.
///MPwr 03-03-2007, 01:53 AM Now might be a good time to go to stage 2 and not worry about it :D
Sounds like it will be close
fryguym3 03-03-2007, 02:09 AM already sent nick a check for the stage 2 upgrade :redspot but will probably end up racing before i get the stage 2 kit installed
jfdmas 03-03-2007, 02:38 AM well, he is runnin mid to high 12's with those mods. Roll race you might have a chance. Froma dig your not gunna have much a chance unless on slicks at a prepped track.
Schneller Bayer 03-03-2007, 02:46 AM if you know how to launch, there's no reason for you not to hit mid 12's or lower.
Heck, theoretically, a hotshoe could hit 11's with a TT stg1.
If you aren't a good launcher and he is, you might be toast.
Schneller Bayer 03-03-2007, 02:47 AM make sure you some good rubbers on your car, and a little less air inside them.
fryguym3 03-03-2007, 02:23 PM looks i might have to upgrade before i race him.
MikeHsu 03-03-2007, 02:49 PM Sounds like it would be a good race. how much whp do u think the sti has -- im assuming high 300 whp? How big is a helix?
Shuasha 03-03-2007, 03:04 PM If the STi only has 300 whp, you would stomp on it after getting traction. AWD = high drivetrain losses added to your 50 whp/wtq advantage.

That reiterates the main issue... you gotta get out of the hole quickly...
What kind of tires are you running? I've noticed a strange trend of quite a few FI's bimmers running crappy tires... never made sense to me.

rears are 255/35/18 Yoko ES100's. They provide great traction once I hit 3rd.
Schneller Bayer 03-03-2007, 03:50 PM I was (though unclearly) referring to the OP.
But why are you running yoko es's? My friends have found them to be insufficient on much slower cars than yours. How about some BFG KD's or Kumho MX's? Michelin pilot sport 2's (ok those cost an arm and a leg)?
If you want the bimmer to still turn, my experience with lesser cars is that es 100's won't cut it w/ 400whp.
to the OP... what tires do you have?

Actually, those tires did VERY well on the track when I was N/A. I would run them for a few sessions and then move to my Victoracers.
Read up on the Tire Rack reviews and keep in mind that some people are tire snobs.
fryguym3 03-03-2007, 04:28 PM im running 255/35/18 bfg kdw's
BMWManiac 03-03-2007, 06:00 PM I like my Toyo T1Rs 255/35/18 with lowered air pressure. I'm thinking of buying some lightweight 17s with slicks for just the track though. I kind of like just driving to the track and then home when I'm done without changing tires.
byron 03-03-2007, 07:33 PM what kind of suspension are you guys with 255's running? i have ps2's 245/35/18 and doubt i could fit any wider on there...mind you i have not rolled my fenders....
fryguym3 03-03-2007, 07:44 PM im on 255 rear with tein ss coilovers and rolled fenders.
gofastm3 03-03-2007, 08:18 PM OK...you should kick his ass. Just get your tiers hot. I got tt stage 1 and i ran a 12.3 @ 115mph w/a bad clutch.
Schnell325 03-04-2007, 12:55 AM Well....most STi's with that combo (stage 2 in Subaru land) run anywhere from 12.5 to low 13's, if I recall correctly. I myself run a 12.9 @106.8 mph. If you can hook up, as everyone has mentioned, you certainly should give him a run for his money.
Oh yeah, mess with his mind and tell him that STi's get the best acceleration when they are run to the redline each and every gear ( ;) )

Krank 03-04-2007, 03:55 AM Sounds like it will be a good race. I've seen some pretty dirty STi launches, they get out of the box pretty quick. I've heard they die off in the top end though? Which is where you should technically shine.
MikeHsu 03-04-2007, 04:51 AM I just raced my friends cobb stage II sti with 290 whp, and he pulled even on me up to 130 MPH. Im making 330 whp :(

STi's die higher up in the rev range, and he's suggesting you try and convince the sti owner to shift at redline to ''squeeze every last ounce of power'' out of it.
But of course, that will make the car slower:devillook
