View Full Version : When will the new M3 be in showrooms
DropTopGal 03-01-2007, 09:41 PM Hi guys (and gals)...
Does anyone have a good idea when the new 2008 M3, particularly the convertible, will be available for purchase? When does the new/following model year for BMW usually make it to the dealerships? Thanks....

NJMotorsport 03-26-2007, 11:43 PM Spring 2008 for Coupe. MSRP released several weeks before that. That is from CircleBMW of NJ. Not sure how accurate they are, but they have been reliable in the past. I am numero 6 on the list there.
SleepRM3 04-01-2007, 08:51 PM M3 coupes are for boyz.
Real men drive M3 Sedans :)

DropTopGal 04-05-2007, 10:55 PM You guys can have and enjoy your coupes and sedans. As for me, I simply love to drive along the beach (A1A here in South Florida) with the top down, bikini on, radio jamming... ahhhh....
Schnell325 04-05-2007, 11:08 PM I think the sedan may be the choice for myself. But, who knows what I'll stay up thinking about at nights....
skierman64 04-07-2007, 12:43 AM Married men with children drive sedans.
DropTopGal 04-07-2007, 01:49 AM Married men with children drive sedans.
Not "all" married men with children drive sedans. My sig other often drives our 2 seater sports car and/or his truck, depending on the weather. We have the Lexus SUV when with the kids. He plans on getting another 2 seater in a few months, a new Corvette. So not "all" married men with children (school age) drive sedans.
cervi 04-07-2007, 08:06 PM Married men with children drive sedans.
Hmmm...kinda confused here.
Married men with children, or married men with children WHILE with children drive sedans ?? I've seen married men with children while with children driving minivans, or coupes. I've even seen them riding the bus, or walking.
I wrote 'children' too many times...i've even lost my point. :embarrasm
fenderwrx 04-07-2007, 08:22 PM i cant wait till it actually IS in showrooms though :-)
SoleFanatic 04-07-2007, 11:37 PM ^ Same
Hit_Apex 04-08-2007, 12:46 AM Expect convertible by spring 09, possibly fall 08.

This reminds me of Vanilla Ice. He sings about the A1A, Beachfront Ave, and drop tops. :stickoutt
skierman64 04-12-2007, 11:28 PM I just started a new thread on this subject based on a discussion with the former M manager at BMW NA, it's not looking good for CY 2007.
Krieg77 04-18-2007, 08:10 PM I don't know what to think of this, but the dealership by me (Studio City, CA) just informed me that a demo model of the new M3 will be on display in a few weeks. And I asked the right questions to make sure this is the new M3 we are all talking about, and it was a Yes Yes Yes. I asked what about the sale date of the car, and he told me nothing is firm yet.
In any event, I asked to be called a few days in advance to the M3 demo arriving there. I bought my M3 there, and they are not completely useless but they can be close especially in the service dept, so we'll see.
I will keep the boards posted.
gamelanman 04-21-2007, 07:20 AM For anyone in Australia, Brisbane BMW are currently set to launch the E92 M3 in September of '07.
MP525i 04-26-2007, 04:16 PM don't all next year models (in this case '08) come out the september/october before the new year starts? :dunno
so i'm guessing we could see them in around that time.

Nope. Technically, a build date in Sept means it is "next years" model. Sept is the "historical" start of the next model year. Thus, if your new E92 were built in 9/07, it would be an '08. That does not mean they will release the car here in Sept. though. In the past, BMW has done a few "mid-year" (Spring) releases. They tend to do it with the "nicer" models for some reason. Personally, it drives me fricken nuts.
As for what and when....first the coupe. From what i am seeing now, it looks like it will be Spring 08. The sedan will prolly be next and that would prolly be Fall 08, thus, an 09 model. After that, prolly the vert....Spring '09. As for the CSL, one can only hope they DO build it and it arrives Spring 09 or Fall 09 as a '10 model..... That's my best guess based on what I have recently read and heard. I wish they would hurry the hell up!

Seriously, the anticipation is killing me, i just want to see the damn thing in person! I have a feeling my dealer is going to be marking up the price like crazy, too many rich people around the area so why the hell not, someone will be loaded enough to buy a new M3 for 100K and not care.

And just think, 10 years from now teenagers and early 20 yr olds, will be modding and driving these things around. Funny how that works. It's all relative.

Haha, that is true...i give it 15+ years...more likely the E46 M3 will be like the current E36
Kevlar 05-02-2007, 05:44 PM My source confirms January '08 for the coupe followed shortly there after by the sedan and convertible.

Hey Kev, does your source have any idea when the DCT tranny will be out? Or any idea on MSRP?
Kevlar 05-02-2007, 08:13 PM Not yet... but I'm guesstimating that starting price will be low 50s ... full optioned out coupe/sedan at mid-to-high 60s and convertible approx 70ish.

I sure hope so! A 70K vert sounds about right, if the M3 did start at say...base price 60K the vert is going to cost about 80K+ with options and theres no way that will work...
Anywhere 51K-57K and ill be game
ArcticFox 05-03-2007, 10:41 AM Hey Kev, does your source have any idea when the DCT tranny will be out? Or any idea on MSRP?
That would be interesting to find out too.
Because we "lame ass americans" insist on manuals, they are sending that first I bet. lol.
Personally, I would more likely go with the DCT as it is going to be "faster" (faster shifts = faster accel) AND the wife can drive it IF SHE NEEDS TO. My wife cannot drive a stick, and I sure as hell wont teach her in my car...lol. Besides, she doesn't want to learn. Too much input. lol. Thus, a sedan with DCT would kick ass. Maybe they will end up releasing the DCT around the time they release the sedan.. hmmmmmmmm.
Kevlar 05-03-2007, 12:17 PM I'm getting the DCT... as much as I love the manual, it's time to upgrade from the old 8track and get a CD player.

Exactly. Too many people are afraid of change, and in this case, change can be a great thing.
burrito007 05-04-2007, 06:52 AM so why is it coming in Jan? every other MY0X comes in MY0X-1 september.
is there a problem with production? Or is there something more like US emissions trying to suck out another 20hp from this gen M? (cali gets a new 334 hp v8 with a long coffee stirrer for an exhaust)

pretty sure its not a problem with production, i think Europe just get dibs on the first round of the new Ms.

so why would that make the release of this car any different from BMW's previous releases. i.e. september/october of the prior year. releasing a My0x in year 200x is unheard of no?
Kevlar 05-07-2007, 09:15 AM No... the release time is highly dependant upon the necessary time it takes to stop production of one generation, retool/equip the factories, build enough of a supply reserve and then restart the production line.
hockey21 05-07-2007, 05:09 PM already have a deposit on one
Krieg77 05-20-2007, 06:19 PM Did they change the name of SMG to DCT? Or I am missing something?
maxse01 05-20-2007, 07:40 PM Exactly. Too many people are afraid of change, and in this case, change can be a great thing.
Damn that! I'm getting an 09 loaded Jerez black coupe next fall when my lease it up...and you can bet it's gonna have 3 pedals! :D
Filip75 05-20-2007, 10:43 PM I was looking into upgrading y car and really considered a used MB CL550 or a Maseratti coupe... But then I realized that instead of dropping 100K for those I should just check out the BMWs again. So I stopped by my local dealer yesterday and looked at the M5. It sure IS nice and doesn't cost much (compared to equivalents in MB lineup). Plus you have to fill that thing up every single day :(
So I inquired about the new M3s, and my dealer said that they stopped taking pre-orders because of the release date being constantly pushed back. The current release date, as he said, is early spring of 2008. I gace him my contract info and now I'm waiting for the news.
Hopefully I'll be one of the first ones to get it... and go back to the Bimmer side of the German House. The thing is that I am picky with what I want in a car, so the first cars they get might not have all the stuff I "have to have". In that case I will have to wait until I can order one with all the needed bells and whistles.
Oh, and my dealer said that it should be in the 50s for base, and high 50s-mid 60s for fully loaded version.

I'm not sure how your dealer is doing things but many of us have deposits with our dealers giving us a place on the waiting list. When the time comes we will then get to order our cars exactly the way we want them. Perhaps you should talk to another dealer and see if they'll give you a spot in line. I'd bet nearly every '08 model will be spoken for by someone on a waiting list (speculation). My $.02.
Filip75 05-20-2007, 10:52 PM my dealer said that they took 3 orders and then stopped it. After that every sales person collects contact information of interested customers. And when they will recive the allocation numbers, they will start calling down the list, and whoever takes it right there on ther spot IS the lucky winner
