After driving amost any car that was available with a stick shift or that had AWD (specifically looking for both), I think I'm prepared to order a BMW to replace my 2002 A41.8tqms. The G35 was the next best, but it's not available in a manual transmission with AWD, the cheaper price is very tempting but it sucks down fuel like there's no tomorrow.

I was perfectly satisfied with the 328's I've driven (one an i the other an xi). However I went and did it when I drove a 335i (albeit with an automatic) last week. The torque was amazing, I couldnt even tell that it was it was turbocharged, and it felt better than the biturbo B5 S4 imo. However I do worry a bit about the LT reliability challenges that a twin turbo BMW would have over an NA inline-six engine.

I'm tempted to order a stripped down 335xi which would would help make the pill easier to swallow - I wasn't planning on leasing.

What kind of availability should dealers have right now for 335xi sedans? One salesman thought there might be a waiting list. I'm in SE PA.

What would be a reasonable price to pay over invoice for either a 328xi or a 335xi?

Thanks.

I asked around about the 328xi pricing when I ordered mine. General consensus seemed to be $1000 over invoice was reasonable. I'm in Canada so what I paid for mine may not be a good comparison for you.

As for the 335xi. Up here they say it won't be ready till fourth quarter of this year.

He's talking E90 335xi which should be available to order now or very soon. E92 335xi is the one that won't be available until 4Q07.

With sedans being produced in March they'll be here in the USA by May. I was more curious as to the supply/demand situation. On thw whole it seems AWD BMW's are only slightly more popular by than FWD Audi's so I was hoping that I would have an advantage in wanting a 335xi as opposed to a 335i.

Yeah, since you're looking for a xi sedan at the end of the winter season, even though it's the newest one to be released I think you should be able to get at least $1500 off MSRP, or work up from invoice if you prefer it that way. The 335xi coupe will probably be a different story especially since they're going to get here just before winter. Those will probably sell for sticker or just under for the first couple months.

I'm not so sure about your assumption regarding the lack of xi popularity. BMW is offering it across the 3 and 5 b/c they think the option going to help sell cars...Imho, rwd+traction control doesn't compare to 4whl drive in anything less than sunny weather.

I was looking to negotiate a 335xi down given the May timing, but my salesman was all over the fact that the power of the 335 was intoxicating and the only way to make the car better was to make it "infinitely use-able" by adding 4whl drive.

I ended up with a short term 328xi lease with plans to jump into the 335xi in the future after the M3 hopefully soaks up some portion of the "power hungry" demand and rightly becomes the most powerful 3 series available (again). Given the winter timing, I walked after only getting 1K off msrp on the 328xi (SE PA dealer). Found a clean lease assumption instead.
