First time post here although I've hung around the Brickboard for Volvos for years. I'm zeroing in on my first new car since '80; a sort of a mid-life transition (no crisis yet). I am thoroughly smitten by the 328i coupe. You can't realize what a watershed event this is, but I've owned three Volvo wagons since 1982. I guess you would accuse me of being utilitarian. But actually the transition hasn't been that dramatic as I've looked at the 3 series wagon as a replacement for my current Volvo, a V90.
The coupe has changed everything. The tipping point was the red interior, which oddly I have not seen a lot of raves or rants about. I'm still struggling with my utilitarian genes so I tend to shy away from the sport package because of the (unnecessarily) larger rims. Premature tire wear and bent rims play on my mind. But I like the seats and the rim style. I also like the 328xi coupe, but in Nashville it may not be used to it's full advantage. I also favor the automatic as this will be a car I keep until my grandkids pry the keys from my decrepit hands and I'm legally blind. I've had auto trannies in all my wagons and they have been rock solid. So, many dilemmas to resolve, but as the time draws nearer, I'd appreciate the collective wisdom and perspectives on my musings. Thanks.
