Awhile back my trunk button got stuck in the "in" position. It is not frozen, but it's not coming out. I pushed it in once to get the trunk open, heard a pop, and the button went in but the trunk did not open. Now, the button is not usable and the trunk is closed--permanently? I would love to be able to get back into my trunk (because my spare, jack, jumper cables, tools, etc. are all in there), but I don't know where to start. Am I going to need to remove my back seat? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sometimes my trunk button sticks in, when that happens i put the key in, turn it a little to the left, so its in between positions, and pull the key to get it back out. But if yours is actually broken, your gonna have to bust it open.

Yeah,
Any ideas on how to bust is open? Can I go in from the back seat? Will I need to drill out the tumbler or something? I am just not sure what to try first.

Unfortunately, there is no way in from the back seat. BMW uses a solid steel panel between them, and only on later models with the optional "ski bag" pass-thru is there any access from inside to the trunk and it would take a tiny toddler to get in.
I would go at the lock first with some spray silicone or penetrating oil.

Thanks to whoever suggested the silicone spray. I had tried WD-40, a certain household oil, lock de-icer, and just about everything else to no avail, and one spray of the silicone spray worked great. The button popped right out and hasn't stuck since. Thanks for all the help!
