View Full Version : Looking at buying a Z4M Coupe - Personal Color Program

I've owned an E46 convertible (titanium silver) an E30 M3 (which appears to be sold this Sunday) (lachssilber) - neither of which were my first choice in colors.

I always told myself that if I bought a new BMW I'd do the personal program, yet my local dealership really knew nothing about it, as if I was asking the car to be donned in alligator leather.

Has anyone done this?

I see most people are getting good deals well below MSRP, is this on cars you order or buy of the lot? Would a personal color affect my discount?

I like Interlagos, but don't love it. I'd be curious if an Estoril or Navy looked better. I really like Imola, but once again, don't love it. There was an E36 M3 red that was metallic and I only ever saw it once (car sold through this forum) that was fantastic.

I also like the two tone leather interior, but a diff red obviously wouldn't match with an Imola interior.

Thoughts? I want to make sure I do it right the first time. The dealer also seemed clueless as if they would put a V8 in the Z4M at some point (as I expected them to be) - I'll be honest, the MPG already sucks on this car, a V8 would make it Dodge Viper like I'm guessing.

Has anyone in the US gone through with the personal program?

Thanks for any sage like advice.

Cheers.

I don't think that's exactly true as I've seen a pretty interesting 6er in Boston in Beacon Hill. Maybe it's not OEM.

this is only available on the 7 series in the USA. ROW gets to do personal orders on Z4s :(

That's bullshit - they build the car in our country.

I really wanted to do European delivery, bitch it's made in SC. Has anyone picked up their Z4M at the Perf Center in SC and drove it home?

I took delivery of my new BMW Z4 M coupe 12/07/06 and drove it home. Great program, fun drive at BMW track, fantastic plant and museum tour. Will definitely do this again with my next BMW!

Yep...since it's made in the US, you can't do BMW Individual.
You can do it if you live in Europe, but there is a limited choice of colours.

Get Interlagos, it's gorgeous.

I originally was going to choose between white, Imola or Interlagos. After thinking about resale (in case an M Z5 Coupe comes out), I've discarded white.

It's down to Imola w/Imola interior or Interlagos with black interior. I've seen Interlagos in person on a non M coupe and was surprised to see how dark it was, the car was also really dirty, too. I wish I could do a red metallic, because my complaint is that Imola is too "flat." Need to sort it out. When I see professional photographs of the car, Interlagos seems like a winner.

The entire BMW M display at the Detroit North American Auto show were shown in white with black int. The black int. with blue and red stitching accents contrasted by the white ext. was very sharp

I have seen some white m cars with the red and blue racing slash acros the front qaurter panel that I thought was very sharp as well.

Good luck, You see red, black and silver all day long not to many white though.

Truth be told I went all black on my 3.0si (cant afford the M yet)

BMW decided it wasn't going to deal with US laws & headaches if customers back out of customer orders.

Ahh, well that's a bitch.

Just saw a black Z4 coupe 2.5 I think in Federal Hill. Black isn't for me.

No such thing as a 2,5L coupe - they only come in 3.0si and M varieties. :) I think black suits the Z4 roadster perfectly, along with Toledo Blue and Sterling Gray.

I almost went with white, but didn't like the way it accentuates the panel gaps in certain light conditions (I see a bunch of black lines surrounded by white car panels). My final decision came down to either dark grey over imola leather or interlagos over black. When I found out I couldn't get imola leather in extended leather - that locked me in on interlagos over black extended. I didn't want red for the reason you cite (looks too flat to me). Definitely glad I got extended leather - wish they did the top of the dash with leather though. Ultimately, I would have taken it in any color combo if I didn't have a choice - they all look good, just some look (a bit) better than others in the eye of the beholder. As for Interlagos looking dark - it is really an interesting color...on overcast days it has a purple color to it (and it definitely isn't dark)...same is true at night. On sunny days - it is bright blue. It is an attention getter and to my knowledge, always on the positive side :) .

That said - the other color that I think might look great is Sepang over Light Sepang extended...only problem is the light sepang extended is really light sepang AND black...not just the light sepang (again - this would force me to go with black interior as I don't like the chopped up multicolor interior - mine is all black with carbon leather and it just looks right to me).

Yep - something like that...but with two differences:
1. With this color I would go for the wood trim.
2. I would want a car with a serial number higher than 30 - this car (#20) was most likely both an "exec" car and a road test mule...I suspect it wasn't babied during break-in :rolleyes
