M88 actually pre-dates the S38B series, first found in the M1 and various BMW race cars the in early80s.

I doubt that you will get 1000 HP out of any S38B series without turbos, The S38B series is a very delicate engine, the head is subject to cracking and the later S38B38 (3.8L) is known for a weak Rod bearing. Gets hammered by any detonation what-so-ever! Probably a combination of a thinner rod bearing and shorter rods then the previous versions of S38 series (S38B35, S38B36) VERY costly if you lunch one of these puppies!

For series turbo work, hard to beat the M30 engine!

TCD does them and Tod posts on forced induction boards, I don't know what their prices are, the point is that you can get M30 engines very inexpensively, they have a very strong bottom end, and there seems to be a lot of technical information available regarding turbocharging.

...M30's are great and all, but why not stick with your M20? they luv boost!!.....i'd even go with an M50/52 swap and FI that before spending money on an M30 swap..........there's way more M50/52 for very cheap on the market than there are M30.....

just out of curiosity, whats the highest HP M30 you've ever heard of? most i've heard of was just north of 600whp...

same here. the only problem i have with my m20 is that its the shit "e" 2.7 litre p.o.s, i can run faster than my car.. haha but i dont know im still up in the air, i want something thats fast but doesnt run a lot of money, i was thinking today about doing an "e" to "i" swap but then i thought, why not just buy an 325is and turbo it or something nifty like that, im really not sure, still wayy wayy up in the air...:help
