Hey guys, i have a 99 540i bmw with DSP, i bought a used amp from ebay, and music is working but sound is very shitty. Its DSP, but when i press my DSP button on HU, it doesnt work, what do i do!? And one more thing, sometimes my car stereo just mutes, for example, in the morning when i drive its working, then i go get gas, turn of the engine, turn it on again, and it mutes, doesnt play, then next time i turn it on and its working again, its wierd. If anyone knows and/or had same problem please let me know what to do... P.S. music is very shitty on factory speakers, what could be the problem? blown speakers maybe?

You purchased a used DSP amp from Ebay??
Are you sure it's working properly??
When you press the dsp button on your hu,..it's suppose to go to jazz, church, memory. etc.
Maybe it's not connected properly??
These dsp systems are not that great, but you should be getting decent sound.
It's not suppose to be cutting off/on like that.
Could be a bad ground.

Does someone local have an amplifier(known working) they might let you test in your car. It is a quick swap and could help find out the problem. Might be a bad amplifier.

I have talked to 2 people this month that got bad cd43 head units off Ebay so it is not uncommon.

and to Big Chaze, well when i bought a car, there was amp, but it didnt play music at all with it, so i changed amp, and im sure it started working because of it, but it might not work properly, because when i press DSP it does nothing, no JAZZ, CHURCH or MEMORY displayed, so it probably not working properly. And i bought TYPE S 4 speakers for my car, you guys think it is better then factory speakers?

It didnt work becuase it wasn't a dsp amp.
It would have to be an amp capable of digial processing I believe.
Which Type S speakers did you buy?? Any decent upgrade would be worth it.

It's not going to work, the amp needs to be coded to the vehicle. Have your 5-series inspected by BMW.

i got Alpine Type S, and planning on buying alpine tweeters also. And for Tom @ eas, how much would they charge for coding and stuff? Because they charged for check up 100$ an hour! thats crazy, because they probably not gonna do anything to my car just tell whats wrong and this is ridiculous to pay bout 100$ or 200$ just for nothing i think :(

Coding is entirely up to your dealer - usually a minimum 1 hr rate.
