View Full Version : MID Radio Swap? Any Experiences Swapping Units from Other E39's?

As I have previously posted, my radio or MID is shot with poor pixel display. I have located a unit that also has the radio/clock function only but the part number is not the same. I am sure they changed them from year to year. My question is if anyone here has swapped out a bad one for another MID and did it work without any issues? Since I do not have a phone or nav I would not buy one that did but this one is visually identical to mine and the pixels are said to be good.

In case anyone is interested, I did remove my MID and took it apart down to the circuit boards. I attempted to improve the crimp connections to the display and board but the result was only marginal improvement. I wanted to exhaust that effort before buying another one. Per my earlier posts, BMWNA will only participate 25% toward the part so it would still cost me $500 out of pocket if I go to the dealer. That's more than my new AE's will cost from Umnitza! I can't give that money away.

This might not be very informative info for those that are located in North America, but there is a place in HONG KONG where they can fix dead pixels for a reasonable price.

They fixed my uncles E38 MID display, where most of the pixels were dead along with LED's that are out on the instrument cluster. They also did the work on my W220 Mercedes, where all the led on the instrument display all went out. Dealer wanted me to pay for a new instrument cluster, but those guys fixed it.

If anyone is in Hong Kong that needs help, let me know!
