I have a 95 530i 5 spd and the engine light just came on. I have read all of the posts that say to push the gas pedal down 5 times in 5 seconds and the display will read out all of the codes. I have tried this several times and cannot get any codes to come out. The CEL will blink like it is reading out the codes but the display is blank. I know that the display works because it will show anything I put on it from the computer i.e. gas mileage, time, etc. The other weird thing is that sometimes when I turn the car on it tells me Side 1 NR on the display. Any ideas as to what that is?

Your 530i doesnt have the option to do the engine check you would have to hook up a scanner.

It will work you just have to interpret the blinks in the check engine light, the codes don't display in the message area. Please read the article on Pelican Parts website or elsewhere.

Thanks for your help. Where is the best place to get a scanner for this car?

Peake Research has a good scanner. It's kinda pricey, so if you get one, you'll have lots of new friends to borrow it from you!
