I just read that for 2008 they are going to bring 535 back with the twin turbo 300hp engine thats in 335's right now :). 530 is going to be gone, I wonder how this engine is going to effect the sale of 550's.

No torque in the 335, so bet the 535 will be the same. Completely different drive, like Porsche vs. detroit pony.. ohnoes 02-25-2007, 06:24 PM I doubt any effect... I don't know, I drove the 335 and it seems to have a different feeling power band, more like a porsche. My 545's torque seems, and I do say seems like much more, even though its only 30 more. I wrestled with it for a couple of weeks, and went with the used 545i instead of the new 335i I can't explain it, maybe someone who know more could research the powerbands and see where that 300 is maxed out, but didn't seem like it has the low end shot outta the gate. Sorry man...:alright ohnoes 02-25-2007, 07:14 PM I don't know, I drove the 335 and it seems to have a different feeling power band, more like a porsche. Sorry man...:alright Considering that peak torque starts at 1,400 RPM, I would have to say I think you are smoking crack. :) Or the test car was a lemon. :confused clevertd 02-25-2007, 08:49 PM My prediction: 535i > 550i because of the aftermarket tuning for the 335i. steveo242 02-26-2007, 08:16 PM My prediction: 535i > 550i because of the aftermarket tuning for the 335i. No way! Don't care how tuned, a V-8 is a much better feel... steveo242 02-26-2007, 08:17 PM Considering that peak torque starts at 1,400 RPM, I would have to say I think you are smoking crack. :) Or the test car was a lemon. :confused Until you have drive both, I'd refrain from commenting...:nono SomeBMWGuy 02-27-2007, 10:04 AM Until you have drive both, I'd refrain from commenting...:nono I have driven both and the 335 feels a lot faster then a 550. In reality they are about the same in terms of acceleration numbers. Heck even the 335 convertible feels a bit quicker. And I also drove the 550 and 335 back to back. dello 02-27-2007, 10:44 AM I doubt that the 535 will effect sales of the 550i. Two different animals. The 535 will provide a great alternative to 335i. The BMW v8s are trademark, especially for the 5 series. Not that many people opt for the v8 new unless they're true fans of the v8. Most people wait to catch v8s second hand and get a better deal. The 535i looks promising-I hope the dynamics can match the performance. 335 engine is sweet in 3-series because the driving dynamics are equally matched. Not sure for the 5-series, bigger car might off-set balance by just small percentage. |
