hey guys, i need help with the swap i wanna do. i have a 2001 325i (automatic) i am looking to do a M3 motor and tranny. i have no clue where to start (old subaru guy) what year m3 motors and tranny will bolt up? where can i get a tranny and motor? i am in Ga and where can i get this done at? just lead me in the right direction as far as options thanks!!!!

I hope your are prepared for a MINIMAL of $8k swap. You need the S54 engine (01+ M3/MZ3/MZ4) and either the 6-speed manual (5-spd out of MZ3) or the SMG setup (sequential manual).

Of course you want to get a complete engine with the wiring harness and accessories. You also will need gauges and a lot of little things. I would imagine you will want a limited slip differental so either you can pay for one or get an M3 rear subframe. Then you will need to get M3 brakes up front...basically this list will get very long so I will let other people write.

Honestly, it would probably be cheaper to sell your car and buy an E46 M3 unless you can do all labor and electronic work yourself. I had a `91 318is that was transformed into a 330is (`95 M3 engine) and while it's a fun project...it takes time and causes headaches...also always costs more than you expect. You realistically need another car for a few weeks while you perform the swap and wrap up everything.
