I'm moving. We bought a house 4 blocks from where live now. We close next Friday, March 2, and the final big moving day will be the 24th. I could use some help, especially if you have a pick-up. I will provide Zarda's BBQ and beer for all that show up to help. This will be a rain or shine event. If the weather is not real nice I'll rent a box truck, but otherwise this will easily be done with a couple of pick-ups since it is so close. I already have some family members lined up to help. With the right number of people a few will work in the old house to load a truck, somebody will drive the load over to the new place where another crew will unload. Then drive back for another load. We will already have moved a good portion of our stuff prior to the 24th. I need help with the appliances and big furniture pieces. Post up if you want to help and if you can bring a pick-up. If you bring a pick-up you can take home the left-over beer, not to be consumed while driving though. If Steve shows up I doubt there will be left over BBQ. I'll provide more details and directions closer to the day. I will arrange for someone to escort Arctus to our secret and mysterious locale in Lenexa if he wants to attend.

See you then! I will not be drinking any beer as I think I have plans to get wasted the night prior. The only thing that might prevent me from helping is if KU plays when the move is needed. March Madness is right around the corner and it is all consuming. :D

I will keep my snide KU basketball tournament comments to myself for now.

I hope you can make it. This will be a midday thing, so it probably won't interfer with games. By that weekend the games should all be late.

OK, we closed this morning so now I am offically in debt up to my eyeballs.

And I did run my car through the car wash. It might not up to Logan's standards, but since I am now landed gentry of Johnson County I have to have a clean car.

where is the new house at, exactly???

I have access to big trucks and a trailer... but I'm not sure I can get the wife to let me blow two consecutive weekends on car stuff/people... not to mention the drive down...

what beer will you have?????

On Twilight Lane in Lenexa, near 95th and Lackman. I figured I would supply Michelob and Boulevard, or any other suggestion. I am not a beer snob or real aficionado, so I'll get whatever is popular. I have one pick-up (F150 6 1/2 bed) committed so far, and my wife's Highlander. I am pretty sure I can get one more (S-10) small one. If there was one truck with an eight foot bed I would be more than happy. As stated above the move is only four blocks, all in the same neighborhood, so it will be very easy. Lots of our stuff is already boxed up, and we will start moving the small stuff tonight. On the 24th it will just be the big stuff.

Congrats man! Owning a house has been an adventure for me.

Word of advice on beer and moving, dont bust it out till most of the work is done. I know this from experience, dude. :cool

Thanks - I plan on the carrot and stick approach. Yes, the beer will show up after the trucks!!!

Great investment = good debt.

I agree and understand. When you see on paper the first few times it is daunting. This is the second house we have bought and it is three times as much as the last one. But that was several years ago in a very different market area, apples and oranges.

I did find one tiny photo from the MLS. We haven't taken too many pictures yet.

As stated above this is rain or shine event, and the current forecast is rain. I booked a U-Haul so we'll have covered transport if needed.

If you are planning to come over I'll send the address and phone number. We should be getting underway about 10am, and should easily be done by 1-2pm. We'll set out the BBQ for lunch around 1 pm. I doubt this will interfer with KU, I would guess they'll play late since they are on the west coast now. I did get the dish hooked up, so any games being played can be on the TV.

You don't have to worry about me being distracted... KU doesn't play until 6 that night! See you tomorrow!

I guess I have to eat a little crow, or Jayhawk, in teasing you long ago about KU not being around this late in the month. They're looking good.

I did a lot of yelling last night... I did make $25 off of a mizzou fan who thought we wouldn't last past tonight.

Have fun, folks. It's Caturday for me as I try to finish up the cubs' enclosures.

To think of all the opportunities I'll miss to plant evidence or plot practical jokes in your very domicile...

If you're not showing up I can probably cut the meat in half. Thanks, that saves me a lot of money!!!

Good job Ted, taking the money from a Mizzu fan is like two-for-one money!!

I grew up in Iowa, near Des Moines. Idiots Out Wandering Around has been mentioned before. Thanks for keeping my deal in mind and enjoy your trip up north.

I lived in Ames from 5th grade through HS graduation.

Great town to grow up in, but it gets boring driving through all that pasture to get anywhere.

But 35N about 5 or so miles past the MO border splits for a few miles and is wide open. I had my ZX-9 up to about 160 indicated there once. Punching through the air wash off a semi at that speed was very interesting, but not scary at all.

No wheat in Iowa, corn, beans, pigs and cows.

It should be a pretty good time, I'm looking forward to seeing a few people I have not seen in a while. I'm debating if I should drive up in my e30 or just roll with my mom in the X5.

Idiots out walking around is what I was thinking of, I'm sure I don't realy need to say it but I don't rly hate everyone from/in Iowa.

Wow, what a whirlwind of a weekend. I really want to thank the people that showed up to help, it made all the difference. Things went very smooth. My wife was impressed how hard and quickly everybody worked. It was a huge help. Had some left over BBQ and a Boulevard for super tonight, still very tasty.

well done gents...

Scott Blazey has always said that the Lincoln/Omaha crowd and the KC crowd have a lot in common... this would seem to uphold that statement.
