Well I got the car back today. Everything was covered under warranty :redspot . On top of that, they had to replace my cluster panel so the guages were replaced and originally they came in black and BMW switched over to silver. So now I've got silver guages which actually looks really good.

Glad to hear everything turned out good for you! Can't wait to see the M5 at the next meet. Ever figure out what's up with the 7 spraying coolant?

Doug - The 2002 is pimp. :buttrock

well the 7 was taken in for service today and hasn't returned yet. I would assume it was just a faulty O-ring. Doug checked it out and noticed the O-ring didn't look like it was sealing properly. I think we managed to get it all sealed up before we left Tucson, however the light doesn't go off unless BMW turns it off. The leak probably started because the 0-ring couldn't handle the seal at WOT.

I would really like to see how those new gauges look compared to the old ones

Hmmm..I'll see what I can do about pics. I think I have a picture of the old guages somewhere. Otherwise you'll just have to wait until the next meet.

And as for the M3: I'm not looking to replace anything, however I am thinking about adding the other M to my fleet :evil2 . Although, after driving it and everything I have to say that compared to the M5 that M3 is like a fat man running against an Olympic athlete. There is no doubt that the M5 pulls much faster and stronger than the M3. So as an alternative I'm looking at a 740i sport and speaking with ESS about a supercharger...:devillook :evil2

And for those of you who are mod. obsessed I have already come up with a lengthy list of mods to get for the 7 (if I decide to get one). Most of these will compliment a SC however some can't go on with a SC. In any case though here is the list:

Engine:
Racing Dynamics Exhaust
Dinan Cold Air Intake (not sure on carbon fiber or aluminum)
Dinan Stage II software
Dinan Stage 4/5 Transmission software
Dinan Auto. Transmission download
SS X-pipe or custom straight pipes
Headers (haven't found any yet, but I'm sure they exist for a 7)

Suspension/ Brakes/ Handling in general:
Racing Dynamics Competition springs (drops the car 40mm)
Brembo cross-drilled rotors both rear and front
Bavarian auto front stress bar (shock tower brace)
Possible Dinan stage 1 suspension system

Exterior:
Racing Dynamics Rear Apron (goes with the exhaust)
Racing Dynamics Front Spoiler
Racing Dynamics Side skirts
Racing Dynamics Roof spoiler
Wheels: stock Chrome 18'' M-parallels
Tires: Bridgestone S-O3 Pole positions

Let me know what you guys think, I'm not so sure on what exhaust, all I know is I want quad tips (something about reminding me of a car I know...:redspot ).

And by the way, Antonio: I have no idea what was wrong with the M, in fact I think all BMW did was reset the internal computer. I probably tripped a few fail safes or something. The guages and such were already supposed to be installed, so that wasn't even part of the problem. No big deal though, I got free guages and a tune up all under warranty. :alright

I take it you are talking about the E46.

Why don't you get a cherry 99 E36 M3 and mod the living shit out of it!!

Supercharger,cams,ltw flywheel etc...

you will have the same H.p. as your M5 out of a car that weighs 1000 lbs. less:D ??

I wouldn't get a 7 and mod. it because of the weight and understeer!

Why not do all of the S52 mods. from Dinan to your car..470 H.P. claimed from them :devillook

The main reason is because of space. I like the idea of having four doors and on top of that something that's great as a touring car. My golf bags just won't fit in an M3 :bawl . On top of that a supercharged 740i would have that ultimate sleeper effect. With the mods listed above combined with the SC, I should be able to push 430 hp out of the 7. That should be good for at least a low 5 for the 0-60 and a mid-high 13 for the 1/4 mile. If I was a serious racer on a road track, then I'd go with the E36 M3 and believe me when I say that I would mod the living $hit out of it. However, the M5 is awesome fun on the track. And on the road, I have never felt a smoother and more relaxing ride then in the 740i w/ the exception of the 745 Li.

The M5 is quite rare around the valley and so are heavily modified 7 series. Basically, it's one of those things where no one in Az has a supercharged 740i, well maybe it's time for one.

Regardless though, I'm still not sure it's a hard debate:

E46 M3 (I mean ESS is producing a SC for it) vs. 2000 E38 740i sport

This argument will probably depend on whether or not the 7's automatic tranny can handle the SC.

And in regards to the Dinan S2 I'm not so sure. It seems as though they're not dynoing like they should. They're only putting out 25 more hp than stock numbers.

Definitely go with the modded 740iL!!!! Talk about a unique combo!! It's nice to have some different cars and with that setup I'm sure you'll be at or near the front of the pack.

SC'd 740 would be an awesome car.

Here's the article on the Dinan S2 if anyone is interested...

Of course it's not. And that's exactly why it is still the number one car of choice in my eyes :mdrbig I just want to get another bimmer to not only add to the fleet, but at the same time find something that will give the M5 its occasional rest. And a car that I feel more comfortable modifying. Regardless though, the M5 is here to stay. Well there is that 2003 I saw....

AzN_M5,

You should check out the E38 message board over on bimmer.org. There is a guy (Simeon) who has a 740 sport. He put in a supercharger and converted it to a 6 speed manual transmition.

He ran in the Car & Driver “One Lap of America” and did pretty well until the belt on the SC broke.

If you get the car you should look him up. He could probably give you some good tips.

Thanks for the information, luckily for me, I already spoke to Simeon :biglaughb . Yeah you're right his ride is awesome. In fact, he's having his entire engine rebuilt w/ a 12 psi Vortech SC. This thing will probably put down almost 500 to the rear wheels when it's done. God help anything with 4 wheels on the road.

Fat man running against an athlete? Ouch. Sounds like I know what my next car will be....
